"Dennis has a tremendous work ethic and does great work. He is friendly, professional, prompt and really good at his craft. I initially hired Dennis for wallpaper removal and was so impressed that I hired him to paint my foyer, dining room, stairwell, kitchen and breakfast nook. He even hung new light fixtures when ceiling work was done. I highly recommend Dennis."

"Purchased an Angie's List deal for whole house painting.  They scheduled a time to come measure the house, showed up when they said they would.  There was a small math error in calculating the size of our house, but we worked that out easily.
The prep work (power washing and scraping) was done on the first rainy day in 2 or 3 months, so it took a little longer than we all expected for the actual painting to begin.  But the weather eventually cooperated, and the crew arrived to begin painting.  They did a good job of covering areas that were not to be painted, removed and replaced downspouts as needed, even painted the window screens, which came as a pleasant surprise.

Wallpaper Removal questions, answered by experts

Accent walls can feel out of place or distracting if not well designed. Accent walls that don’t fit in with a room’s style can feel jarring or overpowering. Some accent wall styles can also feel dated, but fortunately, it’s easier to update a single wall than an entire room.

While it is possible to paint over wallpaper, it is generally better to remove it first to guarantee a smooth, professional finish. Painting over wallpaper can save time, but it may lead to issues if not done correctly.

You can paint over existing wallpaper if it is in excellent condition: smooth, non-textured, clean, and firmly adhered to the wall. Ensure there are no bumps, tears, or peeling areas, and that all corners and seams are securely glued down. You might also consider painting over wallpaper if removing it would damage the underlying wall. Additionally, some wallpapers are specifically designed to be paintable, which can add texture to a room.

However, there are risks. If the wallpaper is textured, damaged, or peeling, these imperfections will show through the new paint. The moisture from the paint can also loosen the wallpaper's adhesive, causing it to bubble and potentially damage the wall. To mitigate these issues, clean the surface thoroughly and use an oil-based primer to help the paint adhere and prevent the old adhesive from bleeding through.

While you can remove wallpaper yourself, it is a labor-intensive process that risks damaging your walls. Common DIY methods include using a steamer to loosen the adhesive or spraying the paper with a solution of hot water and vinegar or dish soap before scraping. However, steamers can cause irreparable damage if used incorrectly, and the spray-and-scrape method can harm drywall if it gets too wet or you scrape too aggressively. For these reasons, hiring a professional is often the fastest, easiest, and safest option. A pro has the experience and specialized tools to remove wallpaper efficiently without damaging the underlying surface, which saves time and minimizes the prep work needed for your next wall treatment.

Using a fabric softener solution is a popular and low-cost DIY method for removing wallpaper, but its effectiveness is limited. While it may work on some types of wallpaper, it is unlikely to be successful on vintage styles, and there is no evidence that it is more effective than other removal methods. There are also several potential downsides: the solution can leave behind a residue that may damage your walls or interfere with the adhesion of new wallpaper. Additionally, this method can create a strong, overpowering aroma that takes a long time to dissipate, making it a poor choice for homeowners sensitive to smells.

Limewash can be removed from brick, but the method of removal will depend on how long the limewash has been on the brick. If the limewash has fully dried—which happens after about five days—you’ll need to use a diluted muriatic acid mixture to remove it. If there are multiple coats of limewash, you may need to apply the acid mixture several times to fully remove it from the brick.
