"Gabe was so helpful when my roof received hail damage. He walked me through the whole process to file an insurance claim, which was approved. He was very communicative and responsive throughout the whole process. I will definitely call him the next time I need any work done on my house."

"Found Sentri on Angi. Jeanette and Violet were very pleasant and efficient in getting a contractor to me in the time frame needed. The contractor was excellent and the roof looks great! I would definitely work with them again if I had additional projects."

Small jobs welcome

"We had an addition put onto our commercial building. Unfortunately the original contractor did not marry the old roof line with the new one properly, leading to multiple leaks where the old met the new. Justin and his team at A-J Roofing systematically worked through the less expensive issues to diagnose the real issues before jumping right to a bigger, unnecessarily expensive repair."

"All went very well.   Started on a Thursday, worked through the weekend and had 5000 square ft of roof complete by Saturday.  Rained on Sunday and his Carpenter didn't work Sundays.  His carpenter finished the facia on Monday and did crew did all gutters and down spouts on Tuesday.   Have a few connections to make to underground drains, but waiting on me to get the drains installed...."

Roofing questions, answered by experts

The warranty for algae-resistant shingles varies by manufacturer, but the industry standard is 25 years for overall shingle durability and lifespan and between 10 and 15 years for algae resistance. Some products come with longer warranties for discoloration of up to 30 years. Check warranty coverage for the shingle and algae protection before deciding on a roofing product.

There should be small gaps between your roof and the walls of your home, and other buildings. These small gaps let building materials shift, expand, and contract with weather and other outside forces, and they prevent moisture from wicking down walls from roofing and gutter systems. Without these strategic gaps, your home’s exterior and its finishes can sustain water damage, decay, peel, delaminate, and crack. However, there is a fine line between a smart gap and a problematic gap—all  gaps should be small, intentional, and covered or filled in with foam insulation to prevent pests from using them as access points.

The best roof replacement type depends on your budget and your particular climate, as well as your personal aesthetic. But in general, asphalt shingles are the best roof replacement type for homeowners looking for durability at a budget-friendly price. Asphalt shingles are the most common roofing material—cost-effective, easy to install, lightweight, and the perfect choice for handy homeowners.

Concrete tile roofs last for an average of 50 years, but you could see more than that if you’re diligent about repairs, roof inspections, and maintenance to avoid major damages. Concrete tile roofs are prone to cracking, so they may not last as long without needing repairs in areas with extreme weather, especially hail.

While the terms are often used interchangeably, wood shakes and wood shingles have notable differences, primarily in their manufacturing and appearance. Wood shingles are machine-cut on both sides, resulting in a smooth, thin, and uniform product. In contrast, wood shakes are typically hand-split or sawed on only one side, giving them a more textured, natural, and rustic appearance. Due to these manufacturing differences, shakes are generally thicker, heavier, and less uniform than shingles. They are also more expensive. Homeowners seeking a more rustic aesthetic often choose shakes, while those preferring a more uniform look may opt for shingles. Both are installed in an overlapping pattern to create a durable, weather-resistant roof.
