"Asked him to come out in June. He said it would be 3 weeks. Which was good with me. Called him 3 weeks later and never got an answer. 2 months later and nothing. And to this day I have not heard anything and its almost October. I am very disappointed. I will say he did contact me quickly but what good is that if You dont do the work. All I wanted was to get a fence and now I have to wait another year."

Land Surveying questions, answered by experts

If you can’t find any records online, you’ll need to contact your county clerk’s office to do further research. They should have property records on file, or can at least point you in the right direction of who to contact. You can also speak with your neighbors about when their houses were built because they were likely built around the same time.

Measure from zero on a measuring tape by placing the metal hook right up against the edge of what you need to measure. You can also latch the hook onto an open edge—of, say, a table—to accurately measure as well. If you begin at the 1-inch mark, you'll need to subtract an inch from your total.

You will find a collection of licensed land surveyors in your area. Your real estate agent or construction manager may also be able to recommend a trusted professional. When speaking with prospective pros in your area, ask the land surveyor if they are licensed in the state, have liability insurance, and can quote you a fee before starting.

Pros will assess your soil type, property geography, and rain patterns for optimal slope.
