"We moved into a new house, in a new town, over Christmas week. Despite a previous agreement for professional cleaning, the house was less clean than any I have ever been in…Years of accumulated gunk in appliances, blobs of paint on floors revealed by dirty rugs being removed, lighting domes and fixtures that were perhaps never cleaned before… floors, windows, blinds, and baths simply crusty. Essentially, if this house were a person I would’ve called an ambulance! Obviously, my wife and I were distressed and we imagined because of the holiday we would simply have to wait for a couple of weeks to get help. We consider ourselves deeply fortunate to have reached out to Ocean’s Blue Family Cleaning Services. My wife talked with Ruth and two days later she came to the house to look it over and give us an estimate. She saw immediately the spot we were in and told me that she would try to get a crew together and come over in the next week for a full day's work. Within 24 hours Ruth, her daughter Cathy, her husband, and three other women had signed on to help us. I did not believe they would be able to get the work done in a day but I was happy for them to schedule more time as necessary. The team arrived promptly, worked nonstop for seven hours, and finished the job. We walked through the house with Ruth and I was nearly disbelieving at what they had been able to do. Their work made it possible for us to go about putting things in place at the house. The entire crew was hard-working and kind… I would recommend them to anyone who values an intense work ethic, a thorough job, and very very decent people!"

Garage Cleaning Services questions, answered by experts

The best way to maintain a garage door and avoid issues is to hire someone to do a garage door tune-up, check the remote opener, and service the main system components, like the springs, chains, and track. Schedule maintenance service once every two years for $100 to $200. You can also DIY garage door maintenance, like washing and waxing the door and applying lubricant to hinges and rollers regularly.

The best method for painting a garage door depends on the door's design and the finish you want to achieve. For the most professional-looking finish, especially on doors with panels or intricate details, a paint sprayer is an excellent choice. It can easily get into hard-to-reach places and provide a smooth, even coat.

If you don't have a sprayer, or if your door is flat, a combination of a roller and a brush is the most effective approach. Use a roller for the large, flat sections to cover the area quickly and efficiently. For the best results, experts recommend a roller with a nap between ⅜ and ¾ inches thick; natural fibers can also help ensure an even coat.

A brush is essential for handling the finer details. Use it to paint grooves, angles, small panels, and the edges of the door where you need more control.

Regardless of the tools you use, it's a good idea to step back after the main application to review your work and use a detail brush to touch up any missed spots.

It’s possible to use a torch to melt ice on your garage door, but we don’t recommend it. It’s very easy to bring the flame too close to the door, which can melt the weather stripping or even the garage door itself. You’ll melt ice quickly with a torch, but the damage you’re likely to cause can end up costing you a few hundred dollars to fix, which isn’t worth it. Instead, we recommend pouring hot water over the frozen area or using a less intense heat source, like a hair dryer or space heater.

The most common garage door material is aluminum, but the best material for you depends on your budget and location. Wood is the most expensive to repair but tends to add the most curb appeal, while fiberglass or composite doors cost less to fix.

Aluminum won’t rust, so it’s a great option if you live somewhere humid or rainy. Steel doors are durable but are prone to rust. If you live somewhere with extreme temperatures, hot or cold, you might opt for fiberglass, which won’t split if the temperatures skyrocket or drop below freezing.

Garage floor sealers last anywhere from one to 10 years on average, depending on the type of sealer you use and the traffic it’s exposed to. Acrylic sealers have the shortest longevity, whereas most other options can last anywhere from five to 10 years. If you use an acrylic sealant to protect against stains, reapply every one to two years. Reapply other types of concrete sealers every five years for the best results and maximum protection.
