"Trevor has been an amazing contractor who has helped us through the process of installing a large interior door for an office. He has helped ensure the space was properly prepared for installation of the door. The other contractors who have assisted Trevor have also exceeded my expectations. They have been extremely detail oriented and have done everything to ensure the best outcome. I would definitely work with Trevor for any future projects."

Customers say: Quality work

"David's crew did a complete rebuild of a 26x8 ft deck section that had been added in 2013 and suffered rot from the new pressure treating process, as well as a complete conversion to Composite Decking for our upper decks. The project included 1500 Sq ft of upper deck & porch surface in new Trex decking and replacement of all the pickets and posts (including the lower deck) with new PT lumber rails and hogwire instead of the old pickets. Drew, Tyler & Hunter worked seamlessly together, taking time to accomplish every aspect of the project right the first time while getting an impressive amount done each day. The railing system and decking were all done precisely with great workmanship and attention to detail. The guys were also great to work with, friendly and asking all the right questions. The whole project turned out great!"

"My projects included exterior painting of my cabin and metal roof tear off and replacement, new support post put in and pressure washing. Nathan and his Son did an excellent job. The projects were completed in a timely manner and within budget. The painting was brushed not sprayed. I highly recommend Nates Home improvement and Services, for your projects. I will use him again in for future."

"We had an excellent experience with K&W Construction for our deck project. From the first consultation to the final walkthrough, their team was professional, knowledgeable, and easy to work with. They helped us with the design, explained our options clearly, and stayed on schedule throughout the entire process. The workmanship is outstanding—every detail was done with care and precision. The crew kept the job site clean and treated our home with respect. Our new deck is beautiful, solid, and exactly what we wanted. We’ve already received countless compliments on it! "Very talented Master Cabinet Maker and Wood Worker. He was more knowledgeable and experienced than all the other cabinet refinishers I interviewed. He s building two additional cabinets for me from scratch to complement my kitchen and bath. He s still working on them, so I ll post again once he s completed the project."

Woodworking questions, answered by experts

While you can perform many routine home maintenance jobs yourself, it’s often a good idea to bring pros in for certain tasks. HVAC maintenance, fireplace and chimney inspections, foundation repairs, and roof inspections and repairs should be handled by professionals who know what to look for and can safely perform repairs. You may also find it helpful to hire a local house cleaning service to help with deep cleaning.

Landscape timbers can last 10 to 20 years in the ground when installed correctly. Pressure-treated timbers will last longer than non-treated ones, as pressure treatment makes the wood more rot-resistant. Wood exposed to high moisture levels or extreme temperature and weather fluctuations may not last as long as wood in drier areas with more consistent weather.

On average, the cost to hire a carpenter ranges from about $75 to $100 per hour, depending on the type of carpentry, location, size of the job, and skill level of the carpenter. Get quotes from at least three carpenters in your area to determine the best price for your specific project.

There are two ways you can cut trim for doorways: with a miter saw or a table saw. Mitered joints need a 45-degree angle. If you’re unfamiliar with a miter saw, you might want to consider buying extra trim pieces or choosing butted joints instead. One wrong cut, and you’ll need to power up the saw again with a new piece.

Butted joints—also called shaker style—don’t need a 45-degree angle. Instead, your side pieces attach perpendicularly to the header trim and only require a straight cut.

General contractors use subcontractors to complete specific parts of a construction project. For example, a general contractor might have construction experience but need a subcontractor to install plumbing lines in a new home.
