"Cory Harrison installed my bamboo flooring, but he did not allow enough room in his cuts to allow the flooring to expand properly with changes in humidity; therefore, the floors have buckled in numerous places. It buckled so badly in front of my front door that I could no longer use the front door and I had to remove it, saw it down and reinstall the door. He also removed my old dishwasher and did not close the pipe that ran from my kitchen sink to the dishwasher, so water leaked all over my kitchen floor. Cory consistently was difficult to get a hold of and to schedule work with; when I finally told him my concerns about his lack of communication and delays on the work he had been contracted to do, he told me to find someone else to fix my chimney, which is the main job that I needed done in the first place. He then told me that I needed to "give him a reason" and "convince him to come" out to do the work that he had been hired to do. Cory was paid in full for the work he did for me, although the work was deficient to say the least. He is not someone that I would recommend to anyone, particularly a woman."

We have been in business in the upstate of South Carolina for over 20 years providing excellent costumer service and craftsmanship. We do not ask for cash up front like some contractors do you DO NOT pay until you are completely satisfied with the work that was completed.

We have been in business since 1993 located in the mountains of North Carolina in Boone. No job is too big or too small. We are a Hunter Douglas Gallery Dealer in Boone NC. Call us today and schedule an appointment for a free in home consultation.

"We considered an Asheville-based company, who said they had to cover two of our large 9' high x 15' wide windows with 3 blinds. Appalachian Blinds & Closets, being motor experts, were able to cover both of these large windows with 1 blind at a better price. We selected them for all the blinds in our home. They painted valances matching our window trim to cover the blinds. Whether installing or providing service, they send a confirming email with a photo of the person who will be coming, and they arrive on time. Since that installation, we had difficulty with how long the batteries were lasting, and they took the initiative to replace the motors, which appears to have fixed the problem. We recently purchased outdoor blinds from them, as well."

"Ordered and paid for custom awning that was to take 5 weeks. Its now been 16 weeks and still waiting. Owner is at best noncommunicable and at worst, rude. I'm now wondering if this is a scam and not a real business."

Awnings questions, answered by experts

Yes, you can replace just the fabric on an awning without having to replace the entire awning frame and hardware. This process will take a professional about one to two hours. If you want to DIY, it could take longer, especially for large or retractable awnings. Replacing the fabric on an awning can improve the look of your home and help naturally cool your interior and exterior spaces.

An awning can last anywhere from five to 15 years and even longer sometimes. The life span of an awning depends on several factors, from its construction materials to the design and who installed it. Regular maintenance is also important here. Weather conditions also impact the life span of an awning. Choose high-quality materials and stay on top of maintenance tasks to extend longevity.

If you're handy, it might be worth trying to install retractable awnings yourself. Just keep in mind that motorized retractable awnings require much more know-how, and the risk of something costly going wrong (such as damaging your new awnings) is higher.

Mechanical awnings should be easy to install for the average person with some handyman skills.

When contacting an awning installer, there are a few questions to ask to make sure the process runs smoothly. To have the awning of your dreams installed to shade you from the sun, ask your installer some of these questions to get you started:

  • How long will this project take to complete?

  • Do you have insurance coverage?

  • Will I need a building permit for this project? Who is responsible for obtaining this?

  • Do you have references from previous clients?

  • Do you have photos of previously completed projects?

You can indeed open your awning in winter. It’s a misconception that you can only open retractable awnings in the warmer months. In fact, modern awnings are strong enough to offer a little respite from the snow if you’re someone who enjoys sipping hot cocoa outside on a beautiful winter day. But if a big storm is coming, such as a hurricane or a blizzard, it’s best to close your awning until the weather calms down.
