We are specialists in retro fit sink replacements. We also do a lot of re purposing of existing solid surface countertops. Corian, Formica Solid Surfacing, Wilsonart Gibraltar and Livingstone Solid Surface, Avonite, Hi macs and more. We do not repair concrete, laminate, tile, cultured marble or stainless steel countertops. Our minimum job charge is $400.00. Small jobs such as cutting a countertop to shorten in length, caulk replacement only, would fit into this minimum category.

Tiles last for around 100 years or more. Tiles on backsplashes can last even longer since they’re less likely to crack under foot traffic or from accidental drops, but even tile in high-traffic flooring can last a century or more with proper installation and upkeep. Porcelain tiles are denser and stronger than standard ceramic tiles, so they’ll last longer, often pushing past the 100-year mark.
A cement backer board is not needed for laying tile on concrete. Sometimes referred to as a cementitious backer unit, or CBU, backer board should be used if the subfloor is plywood or OSB. The backer board provides a base on which to install the tiles that isn’t as likely to be damaged by any accidental water seepage as natural materials would be.
If you’re out of spacers for your tile installation, you can use pennies. Each time you place a tile, stick the pennies around the edges (on the sides and the corners). Like working with spacers, you’ll want the same amount of space around each tile before they set.
The tile spacing you should use will depend on the tile and where you’re installing it. Choosing the right tile spacers to maintain a consistent gap between your tiles is tricky. Generally, tile spacing shouldn’t be less than 2 millimeters on walls and 3 millimeters on floors because of stress relief requirements. Getting it wrong can result in uneven tiles and early repairs.
