"Can say enough for the cost, service, response and communication. Quickly came out, quoted within hours, and completed all the work from start to finish within a week. I will use them moving forward with any type of pressure washing, staining and sealing of fence and other. Here are a few before and after."

"Diego gave helpful advice on a whole house painting(including tin roof and decking). He and his crew spent significant time pressure washing and preparing all surfaces for paint and stain. They came promptly as the weather permitted. He and his crew were meticulous and expert in their painting. They left no mess behind on any day of work. It was fun to see the progress and we feel like we have a new home and deck and are thrilled with it. It was a pleasure to work with Diego and his crew."

"Excellent. The inspection was thorough, and agreed with by my insurance company (hail damage). The price was less than allowed for by my insurance company. Very courteous, responsive, and efficient. The roof looks great, no leaks, and they cleaned up everything!"

"AHS did an excellent job that went above and beyond the Angie's List offer we purchased! Charles Denziel and his associate were polite and friendly. They arrived at the scheduled time, worked quickly and efficiently, and left behind a squeaky clean house with no mess. Beyond freshening the siding, the AHS team removed grime from the exterior of all the windows (what a difference) and cleaned the gutters and window frames, as part of the package we purchased. Going above and beyond the offer, AHS also removed mud dauber nests, blew accumulated leaves off the roof and pressure washed a portion of the front deck, which had been slippery. They were also careful of our outdoor furniture. I could not be happier with the work. I will definitely use them again."

Deck Cleaning questions, answered by experts

You typically don’t need a railing and handrails on a deck that’s less than 30 inches from the ground. However, consider adding them regardless. Railings provide additional safety for you and your guests who use your deck—plus, railings give the deck a more finished look than it would have without them.

The choice between Trex, a brand of composite decking, and PVC decking depends on your priorities regarding budget, appearance, and environmental impact. Both materials are durable and resistant to moisture and insects. Trex is often considered more eco-friendly because it contains recycled wood and plastic and is 25% recyclable, while PVC is fully synthetic and harder to recycle. Aesthetically, Trex is designed to look more like real wood, whereas PVC often has a glossier, more plastic-like finish. In terms of cost, Trex is typically less expensive than PVC.

Routine cleaning, sealing/staining, and inspection prolong deck life and appearance.

Expect to spend around $10,000 to $11,000 to replace a 20-by-20-foot deck. Using high-end materials like composite or exotic hardwoods can drive up the cost, as can custom features and design elements. You can also expect to pay more than average if your deck replacement requires a site evaluation or if you need the work done during the busy season.

You can build an outdoor kitchen on a deck, but you should choose composite decking since it's more heat-resistant. Metal deck materials like steel and aluminum are also good choices because they're less flammable than wood. You should also consider the weight of the kitchen—make sure your deck can support it and any appliances you plan to use. You should consult a structural engineer to confirm exactly how much weight your deck can safely support when building an outdoor kitchen.
