"The job was done in a very professional manner paying attention to detail and quality of the supplies provided and used for the fencing. The job was done efficiently and exactly to the specifications that I required. He made sure that I was satisfied with the job at different stages of the construction. I had one or two specific things that I wanted done and he made sure that they were installed properly as they were being done. He worked very neatly and cleaned up all of the property of any cut or waste materials. His men were very proficient at performing their individual tasks paying attention once more to quality and to my satisfaction.

"Tre is an awesome job!! The job required more parts and trips to Lowe's than initially expected due to the age and placement of the old toilet and plumbing parts. Tre is a great communicator and is very clear and transparent about the work he's doing and what the best options are for getting the job done without spending an arm and a leg. I plan to reach out to him again for scheduling other work on my house!"

"Delvin Barker came to our home in Raleigh, bringing along Jovanta Agu to undertake our LONG list of oddball items that really needed to be done. They were WONDERFUL. We had contracted Barkers Brickpavers for a variety of jobs which included replacing damaged bead board, installing a tile backsplash and painting damaged ceilings in the bathroom, kitchen and mudroom. They also patched sheet rock in a bedroom, installed a backsplash behind the stove, and installed paneling in the mud room. Despite an already long list of things to do, they did not falter when they discovered an unexpected pipe leak during the paneling installation. Delvin quickly assessed the problem, advised us of the necessary fix needed and added that to their list. They were hardworking, efficient and VERY GOOD at each task they undertook, as well as being very reasonably priced. More than that, they were a pleasure to have in my home, cleaning up after each chore and leaving my home better after their work than it was before We would absolutely recommend Barkers Brickpavers for your needs. As a matter of fact, we have already requested their services for a few other items we need done. Gene and Nancy B."

"Thomas was excellent. He arrived on the same day I called to inspect and give a quote (exactly on time) and managed to do the work two days later. It looks even better than it did before the water damage and I was impressed with Thomas's care and professionalism through all aspects of the job. I would definitely hire him again for future work."

"Joe Morgan came to the house and viewed the area. He then proposed a solution to the hillside problem making sure that I was in agreement with his ideas. He searched for resources  that would provide the materials while staying within my budget. On the agreed upon day, Joe and Kevin arrived right on time and completed the project in a very reasonable amount of time. They were both hard-working and very professional. The hillside looks wonderful. I will certainly call on Workhorse Landscaping for future projects.

Retaining Wall Installers questions, answered by experts

Regular inspection for issues like cracks or leaning and ensuring drainage stays clear.

Installation typically takes 1-2 weeks, depending on the wall’s size and site conditions.

Railroad ties can be good for retaining walls, but it depends on the area. They have a desirable rustic look and are durable. The problem is they’re treated with creosote, a preservative the EPA says poses a risk to humans and wildlife. Over time, the preservative seeps out of the wood and into the ground. Many areas have banned the use of creosote-treated wood on residential properties. If your area does allow it, never use railroad ties near an edible garden or drinking water source. Instead, use wood that’s treated with an EPA-approved preservative or a wood-alternative composite material.

Yes, you can use cinder blocks for many purposes, including retaining walls, foundations, garage walls, and fences. Building a cinder block retaining wall costs between $60 and $200 per linear foot, including materials and professional labor. For a 30-foot-long retaining wall, the cost ranges from $1,800 to $6,000.

Each design is different, so we can’t say definitively if you’ll need a dedicated drainage system in place for a two-foot retaining wall. However, you can likely skip the drainage, as this project is typically served for walls that are 4 feet tall or more. Even with a relatively low wall, consider drainage if you are building on top of clay or poor-draining soil types or if there are buried water sources nearby, like a well used for other outdoor garden projects.
