No one could tell me what the problems were, although they all quoted me between $860-$1,200 to repair the car. My daughter has been using the car for several months and I knew I had to resolve the issues since it could not pass inspection. Mr. Tenpenny did a complete tune-up, replaced a coil and another part (can't remember and don't have the paperwork in front of me), and changed the oil. He then cleared the codes and had my daughter drive the car to see if the check engine light came back on. It did. She took the car back to him and he started looking again. He said there were seven different codes showing up (which is the same thing I was told at another shop). He finally found a vacuum leak which he repaired. He cleared the codes again and told her to drive the car at least 50-60 miles. The check engine light stayed off this time and was able to pass the inspection at last! The second repair was $130. Every other shop I talked to insisted I needed a new cat for at least $900. This was a difficult repair and he could have taken advantage of us, but he persisted and found the real problems instead. This man has our business for as long as we have family in the area. Before he started a new portion of the building process he would always check to make sure that everything that was done prior to the next step was done correctly. This was a valuable learning lesson for my husband and myself. When he again checked the mason's pillars he found that 2 of the 7 were not level. We contacted a mason to correct the problem prior to any additional work was done that would have had to been redone had this not been caught. He followed the structural engineer's drawings to the letter and required all subcontractors to do the same. He was an excellent teacher. Patient and knowledgeable and always courteous. We saw him as our personal "Mike Holmes" the star of the reality show " Holmes on Holmes". The job was done on time and to our complete satisfaction. His thoughtful planning of what the costs are and what a project entales is not always understood by the homeowner, but he is always willing to explain why something must be done to secure the integrity of the building of your project- just like Mike Holmes on his TV show. He also removed the old deck flooring carefully and we were able to give it someone else to use in a smaller setting. Our decking flooring is called Moisture Shield and it has hidden nails. This is far more time consuming to install but he assured us we would be much happier with the end result and we are. He also told us to have a cement slap under the steps. The previous steps did not and although they were only 7 years old they were broken and not sturdy. Our new steps land on a stone patio and are very secure. The deck is not just a deck to us. It literally transformed our entire backyard. We highly recommend Robert McNitt Construction Company for your building needs. He does excellent work. Structural Engineering reviews from real Angi homeowners in Lenoir, NC
They were very communicative and punctual; showed up exactly when they said they would and did the work as described. I would give them an A in that department. HOWEVER, I did not do proper due diligence on the product itself. We were shown a brochure but had not seen the actual product up...

"These guys are the kings of the hard sell. They pushed me to sign a contract before they'd even delivered the report showing what work would be done. Reputable companies don't discourage you from getting competitive bids, nor do they push you to "sign right now" without going over the details. And to add insult to injury, they NEVER stop calling you, no matter how many times you ask them to stop."

FAQs for structural engineering projects in Lenoir, NC
No, it’s not legal for unlicensed individuals to conduct structural calculations for buildings or building repairs. Not only do licensing requirements prevent DIYers from tackling this project, but mistakes can also be extremely dangerous and put your property and anyone inside or near it at risk of severe injury or even death. You should always hire a licensed and certified local structural engineer to make structural calculations.
Yes, all states require structural engineers to carry the proper license, with specifics determined by each state. You can use Angi’s state licensing tool to confirm that the structural engineer you’re considering holds the required licensing to tackle your job. Hiring an unlicensed structural engineer will not only cause issues with permits but it could also lead to an unsafe building. The cost of a professional, licensed, and experienced engineer is well worth the investment.
The process of hiring a structural engineer starts by finding reliable professionals in your area and comparing quotes from at least three of them. From there, you can narrow down your selection by asking some leading questions:
Do you have experience working in my specific area?
Do you have professional indemnity insurance?
What will your structural report cover?
Do you charge a flat fee for a structural report or by the hour?
How long have you been in business?
Do you have a list of customer references?
Structural engineers typically charge between $100 and $250per hour, but many jobs won’t be based on a per-hour fee. Instead, the structural engineer will offer a flat rate for the inspection and structural calculations. The flat rate for a structural engineer costs an average of around $550, but you could see prices ranging from $300 to $800, depending on the complexity of your project and how easy it is to access certain parts of your home for the inspection.
Whether you’re building a new home or building an extension on your existing property, you will likely need both a structural engineer and an architect. A structural engineer will determine what loads your foundation and framing can safely handle, and an architect will draw plans according to those structural calculations to simplify the building process. You can start by contacting a structural engineer near you, as many work alongside architects and can get all of the prep work done at once.
