"Terrible service. The technician replaced the fireplace blower fan, but it stopped working shortly after the repair. When we complained, the woman who answers the phone was rude and not helpful whatsoever. The technician then took the blower for two weeks to fix it again. Apparently he did not tighten all of the hardware so a few screws were loose. Two weeks for a loose screw. Absolutely terrible quality of work and customer service."

For the best chemicals to clean a metal roof, stick to gentle detergents such as dish soap, laundry detergent, or car-wash soap mixed in a diluted solution of ¼ cup of soap to 1 gallon of water. If you don’t have gutters, you can hang Christmas lights on your tile roof or shingles with the right kind of roof clips. Again, you should avoid using nails or staples, as they could damage your roof’s material. Adhesive light-hanging clips are best for hanging lights on a roof.

Vinegar will not damage your roof shingles. Using vinegar to wash your roof is an effective and popular cleaning method for asphalt shingles. You can buy white vinegar with varying concentrations of acetic acid. Typically, 5% is all you need for a good roof cleaning, but if you’ve got stubborn stains or moss you can go as high as 25%.

It is possible to wash your own roof, but we don’t recommend it. First, getting up on any roof is dangerous without proper safety equipment, especially if wetting a metal roof and making the surface slick. Additionally, it’s easy to damage your roof or force water between roof seams if you use a power washer, which can lead to property damage. Hiring a professional roof cleaner will save you time, keep you safe, and ensure that your roof looks new again without damaging it in the process. Plus, roof cleaning is a relatively affordable home improvement project.

If you’re painting your home or monitoring a job as it’s being completed, squash the issue ASAP if you notice paint is getting onto the roof. Keeping it clean is one of the keys to extending your roof’s life.

Removing latex paint before it dries is much easier and lowers the risk of damaging your shingles (more on that below). Simply spray the spot with a hose for one to two minutes to clear away the drying paint. In general, this is a good way to remove ugly stains from your roof without using chemicals.
