After 14 years of working with big box retailers and a few franchised custom window blind companies I've noticed a trend with each of them.. The big box retailers sell less custom blinds each year because their overhead and sales associate mistakes are very high..The sales staff in the window covering departments of most big box retailers almost never get any formal training on how to install or measure blinds.. They get most of that knowledge second hand with usually zero experience on installs and measures..Many of your franchised local retailers that you see with colorful ads on billboards and the side of work vans also have very little or no experience with installs.. They depend on an experience pro to install a poorly measured product. Sometimes it can be done. Often times it cannot..if a measure error was made.. Working with large retailers for an installer means that you get exposed to 100's of variations of window moldings and dozens of products---Nothing can take the place of that..Especially when many franchised window blind businesses have been bought & sold during the current housing crises....And that means new inexperienced installers have entered the market also plus sales staff that are learning as well.. Why not go with a company with an experienced installer coupled with an experienced sales rep? The sales rep that I have provides name brand products for LESS than cheaper made generic brand custom blinds that can be purchased online..When you buy blinds online..Most of the time they will not provide information on what company is manufacturing their products..That can be a very bad thing.. If you can buy a top manufacturer of custom blinds for less than online products then you have a great deal!! Dozens of customers from big box retailers in previous years wanted me to install blinds they bought online for much cheaper than big box retailers.. I can do a side by side comparison of online product pricing and beat their prices with well known manufacturers with great warranties... Where else will you get both Sales & Install from the same person? I have documentation of each year ive been in business. Please feel free to ask me about it. NC Licensed Contractor. Insured (Workers Compensation and General Liability). Over 30 years’ experience with a strong knowledge of the NC building codes. Being a former OSHA certified safety trainer for the construction industry shows my commitment to safety. Hands on service, performing most work personally with help of staff, use of subcontractors only as required. We offer written estimates and written contracts with specified substantial completion dates, payment terms and no surprises. I work, by the job, by the hour or “cost plus”. Accumulated many photographs over the years showing before, during and after the work to help the customer better understand the process and what to expect. We provide consulting services where we work with the homeowner to provide Proactive Consulting to help anticipate possible future problems, as well as assisting the homeowner by performing project management over their project when they want to act as thier own contractor.

Custom window treatments provide many benefits over prefabricated treatments. Consider the following advantages of installing one-of-a-kind window treatments:
They block more light when they’re closed.
They provide a significant increase in home energy efficiency.
They can better protect your furniture and floors from UV damage.
They can help make your living space temperature more comfortable and even.
They improve your curb appeal.
They tend to last longer than prefabricated treatments.
They add more to your home’s value.
In most cases, custom window treatments are well worth the investment. Custom window treatments not only elevate your curb appeal and make your home more visually pleasing inside, but they also often do a better job of boosting your home’s energy efficiency than non-custom treatments, and they usually last longer. Plus, specialty window treatments can increase your home value if maintained well, so your investment is more worthwhile in the long run in most cases, too.
Custom window treatments cost around $900 per window, and prices usually fall between $150 and $4,800. Your total will depend on many factors, including the type of window treatment, the amount and size of the windows, your home’s location, and the labor cost. Blinds and shutters tend to be the most affordable custom window treatments at $600 to $2,700, and the most expensive options are valances, drapes, curtains, and estate shutters, costing up to $3,000.
In most cases, it’s impossible to install your own custom window treatments because the companies that manufacture them will only allow professionals to pick them up and install them. You can buy semi-custom window treatments to cut to fit your windows, but they don’t offer the same benefits as true custom treatments. Additionally, even if you find a custom window treatment manufacturer that will sell directly to you, it’s better to have a window professional install them for a better appearance and to maintain your home warranty coverage.
In most cases, custom blinds increase your home value for many reasons. First, custom window coverings make your living area and the exterior of your home more appealing, which tends to help buyers develop a positive opinion about your property. Savvy buyers will also know that custom treatments improve energy efficiency and privacy and will be willing to pay more for those perks. The average return on investment for custom window treatments is around 75%.
