Randy was very responsive any time I texted or emailed him, often replying on the same day (even on weekends!), and patiently and thoroughly answered all our many questions. They started the job when promised, finished it promptly even though we told them we were in no rush, and made helpful suggestions that resulted in a better project outcome. They even came back to do a little touch-up work we wanted even though we’d already paid them in full (some contractors would not have come back). We’re very happy with their work, and will definitely hire them again if we need more landscaping done."

When it comes to which stone is better, crushed or natural gravel, it all depends on the project. Crushed stone is a great base and filler material for projects like retention walls, concrete slabs, driveways, pipes, and drains. Gravel is a common choice for visually attractive landscaping projects like walkways, above-ground drainage systems, patios, and garden borders.

Mulch costs an average of $15 to $80 per yard, depending on the type you choose and whether you have it delivered and installed by a pro. Generally, it’s cheaper to buy mulch in bulk and have it delivered to your home. However, bags are the more cost-effective choice if you only have a small area to mulch.

The number of bags of topsoil you need depends on the depth you’re filling. The average topsoil is sold in a roughly forty-pound bag, covering 12 square feet at a one-inch depth. Since topsoil is by nature the uppermost layer of soil, you can bet on only needing to fill about 4 to 8 inches of soil depth with it.

Some drawbacks of forestry mulching include leaving behind a thick mulch layer, not being suitable for extremely rocky areas, creating conditions that attract pests, and not being able to fully remove large trees and stumps. You may need to pay extra to have larger trees felled and stumps ground in order to fully clear your land.

A good driveway should have a solid base layer and a smooth surface layer of gravel. A base layer of larger gravel, around 1 to 2 inches, keeps the foundation stable and helps with drainage. For the top layer, smaller gravel, about 1/4 to 1/2 inches, compacts well and creates an even surface that’s easier to drive on. Using both ensures the driveway stays durable, drains properly, and doesn’t shift over time.
