"thanks to this site, I called Greater Wilm. Structure about a brick house I was buying that had cracked brick and unlevel floors. I assumed I would only (!) need to have that section of the home jacked up and the foundation repaired. Brian returned my call quickly, and met me and my realtor at the house (was a 45 min. drive for him) to give me his opinion and verbal price quote. Many contractors/carpenters would have just focused on the project and the money involved, but Brian wanted to see WHY the house had sunk. He pointed out the major structure issues with the tresses in the attic, joists, as well as other red flags, that would cause problems later. He's a master carpenter and his knowledge, experience (and sense of humor!) was refreshing and valuable. After meeting with him I decided to pull my accepted offer on the home and feel I have saved myself untold amounts of money, stress and frustration. "Patriot installed a new metal roof in March '23 with extra screws at an additional cost so that we could qualify for hurricane roof certification from NC, ultimately lowering our homeowner's insurance premiums. Unfortunately, Patriot did not take the necessary pictures of the finished work showing the extra screws needed to get the state certification which disqualified me from receiving the discount for the hurricane proof roof and thus higher insurance premiums. The additional cost amounted to more than $4000 over 4 years in higher premiums . They had agreed in writing that they were wrong and were willing to credit me back by check the difference in premium costs but to date and after several promises from their sales mgr, I have received <$1000 with numerous unfulfilled promises from the mgr that they would send the balance. Very disappointed with their mgmt and their commitment to do what they promise and to make right on their mistake."

While vinyl siding's lifespan of 20 to 40 years is impressive for the cost, other siding options can actually last much longer. Stucco siding can last 50 to 80 years when properly maintained and is only a bit more expensive than vinyl. Fiber cement is similar in that it’s a little more expensive but lasts more than twice as long. Stone and brick last the longest, often more than 100 years, but they’re the most expensive siding materials.
You can apply stucco to wood by wrapping it with grade D waterproof paper, installing trim accessories such as metal lath, control joints, weep screeds, casing beads, and expansion joints, and applying the stucco in three layers. You’ll need a scratch coat, brown coat, and finish coat, all applied with a trowel and screeded with a darby or straight edge. Each should cure for two days before you apply the next one.
Installing stucco over brick can add longevity and durability to your siding while protecting it from deterioration due to exposure to the elements. However, stucco over brick does have a few downsides. You’ll spend more time and money on maintenance and repairs, and your siding may be more susceptible to cracking.
Late fall is generally the best time of year for installing stucco siding. We don’t recommend hiring a stucco pro to apply this feature when the temperatures are below freezing, so it’s best to avoid applying stucco siding to your home during the winter. However, it’s safe to apply in hot and colder temperatures, so any other time of year is suitable. The spring and summer are the busiest times of year for stucco siding professionals, so you could save money by doing the work in the off-season: the late fall.
