It depends on how you’ll use it. Both awnings and pergolas create shelter in outdoor areas, but pergolas have grid-style roofs, which are more open than awnings and not as effective at blocking out UV rays and precipitation. Metal awnings last much longer than fabric thanks to their durability and resistance to fading, sun damage, and damage from the outside elements. They also need less maintenance than fabric options. It’s best to keep your awning retracted if winds are 25 miles per hour or more to make sure your awning doesn’t sustain irreparable damage due to wind.
