"Spray Foam Insulation of North Carolina was quick to respond to my initial inquires and they were quick to provide me a quote. I have a 30' x 40' x 12' high metal building sprayed with closed cell foam 2" thick. So far, it seems pretty good. Before (in month of March cold to cool temps) the metal siding would be hot after the sun would shine on it and now it is not. The vast inside building temperatures swings have been greatly reduced. I will have to wait until this summer to see how it handles summer temps and humidity. I plan on having a dehumidifier and window A/C to help maintain temps/humidity during the summer. The only negative thing is that they drop sheet metal screw all over the place. I'm surprised that I haven't gotten a flat tire yet, but other than that all was good."

"Staff was very nice to work with. I had to schedule this around other work that had to be completed first and they were very understanding and flexible in getting the attic insulation scheduled. Excellent communication thru the whole process from estimate to installation. The insulation installers were on time and super nice and professional. It was 97 degrees (feels like was 106) the day the insulation was blown in the attic. They worked had, but safely and the finished product was great. It looked like a bed of clouds in my attic space. Reasonably priced as well. I will definitely call again for any insulation work needed."

Insulation questions, answered by experts

Several types of insulation are effective for crawl spaces, with spray foam and rigid foam boards being two of the best options. Closed-cell spray foam insulation is a strong choice because it effectively repels moisture, resists biological growth, seals the air, and provides excellent thermal protection, especially in hard-to-reach areas. Rigid foam insulation boards are another excellent material as they insulate well, resist water damage, and will not settle over time like fiberglass or cellulose.

Ductwork sweats due to a temperature difference between the air inside the ducts and the surrounding air, similar to how a cold drink develops condensation in the heat. This sweating is a sign that your HVAC system is not operating at peak efficiency. The best way to keep ductwork from sweating is to wrap it in proper insulation, which also improves your system's energy efficiency. Another option is to close off your crawl space and install a dehumidifier to dry the air and lower its dew point.

It is normal for the attic to be hotter than the rest of the house in the summer, but only by about 10 or 20 degrees. Attics that aren’t properly insulated or ventilated can reach temperatures of 130 degrees or more which can cause damage to the home’s structure, including the roof, wood framing, and HVAC system.

Yes, covering exposed wires is necessary for several important reasons. Exposed electrical wires pose significant risks, such as electrical shocks, fires, short circuits, and potential damage to your home’s electrical system. By properly insulating and protecting the wires, you can minimize the potential for accidents, prevent electrical fires, and ensure your electrical system stays intact.

The R-value is a rating that measures an insulation's thermal resistance—in other words, how well it insulates. A higher R-value provides more protection for your pipes, and all pipe insulation materials should have an R-value listed on the product description or label. Each insulation type has its own R-value, which typically falls between one and five for most pipe insulation. When making a selection, Energy.gov recommends choosing a pipe wrap that is at least one inch thick, and the International Code Council (ICC) suggests choosing a material with an R-value of at least 3.
