"It was carefully thought out and had to be completely taken down to the original pipes and plumbing in a bathroom 65 years old. The bathroom did not meet requirements or even the parts required now, so everything had to be measured and fitted with updated materials. Added to that, the house was not grounded electrically. All new breakers had to be installed with GFI connections. A window in the shower wall was removed, and the wall and vinyl siding removed and replaced. Insulation was installed in the attic, with new light fixtures, fan, and heater in the ceiling of the shower/tub. All of the very old ceramic tile had to be removed from very old flooring, and old crumbling wall tiles throughout the bathroom. The bathroom was originally 2 small rooms with 2 sinks and 2 toilets. It’s now a whole nice-size bathroom, with one toilet, a double sink, a linen closet, and storage space. The walls between had to be removed, and 4 doors removed. This was a huge time-consuming job, and Mr McGilliad did every step, communicating with me to ensure that I approved of changes made. My new bathroom is beautiful. I would love to have him back when I need anything done with care and experience and kindness again!"

"How did it go? Positively EXCELLENT!!! I would give Butler Contracting 10 stars if I could. Scott is very professional and knowledgeable. He is honest and trustworthy. His prices are on the mark but their workmanship is above and beyond. Scott is a can do type of guy and his crew is helpful and accommodating. They work nice and neat and keep their work debris free. The project started with just the driveway. As the work progress I was so happy with what I saw I contracted him to do a walkway that lead around the side of the house and into the yard. He routed the down spouts under the walkway and pipes that took the rain water away from the house. He thought of everything he really knows his stuff. From the walkway I had him do the patio off the back of the house. He graded the property when he was done. His work is impeccable. He is definitely my go to guy. Easy to work with , down to earth, and excellent work from underlayment to finished top layer. I am happy I found him. He came recommended to me and I am happy to recommend Bulter Contracting to you reading this you will not be disappointed."

Pavers and Hardscaping questions, answered by experts

The cost to pour a driveway apron depends on the material and size. Concrete costs $3 to $10 per square foot, asphalt ranges from $2 to $5, and pavers are $5 to $15 per square foot. Additional expenses, like excavation, base material, and labor, can increase the total cost. For example, a standard 12x15-foot concrete apron could cost between $540 and $1,800, depending on local rates and additional work required. Always consult a local driveway paving contractor to get an accurate estimate tailored to your project.

If you’re looking for a similar, eco-friendly driveway material, you might consider one of these options:

  • Permeable pavement: This material is sometimes called “pervious” or “porous” pavement; it allows stormwater to drain into the subbase, eliminating storm drain costs.

  • Gravel: Consider paving your driveway with locally sourced gravel. By sourcing from a nearby source, your money won’t fund international shipping and will be invested back into your local community.

  • Natural stone pavers: Because natural stone pavers are made from organically-produced stone, there’s no new manufacturing required, limiting the environmental impact. In addition, water easily flows and drains through the gaps in the pavers.

The most common causes of sunken pavers are poor base preparation and insufficient compaction. The problem could also be how your pavers were installed. If the soil beneath your patio or walkway wasn't compacted, it will pull pavers down as it settles. Additionally, using bare soil instead of making a paver bed with compacted gravel and sand can cause sinking over time. To fix sunken pavers, consider recompacting the base and addressing any drainage or erosion issues in the area.

You should contact your driveway installer before winterizing a newly installed driveway. Winterizing it before the asphalt or concrete has fully cured can damage the driveway. But in many cases, you don't need to winterize a newly installed driveway anyway since it's likely freshly sealed and won't have much damage yet.

Yes, you should lightly wet the sand with a hose before laying the pavers on top. This activates the bonding agents in the sand, ensuring that your pavers don’t shift around during the installation process. However, you should make sure that the sand is not soaked; overwatering can cause the sand and pavers to not set properly.
