"Nevis is a skilled craftsman and repaired the staircase to an aging deck. His repair was outstanding. My handyman was over the next day and commented on the exceptional work on the deck. Nevin was professional in manner. He came with his tablet, took pictures and measurements and then set up a time to come do the repair. He provide professional opinions on several portions of the repair, which appreciated. The repair was completed with Precision and innovative. We are very pleased with the result and will contact him when we are ready to replace our deck."

"The categories were too narrow! These guys did it all. They enclosed my garage, built a small porch and stairs from the garage to the outdoors, put in a rock wall, leveled the back yard and installed a patio. They were fast and professional, and excellent problem solvers. I would recommend them to anyone. I intend to hire them for a few more projects as well."

Small jobs welcome

"I used Matt to install egress windows and install flooring in a basement and four bedrooms. The quality and execution speed of his work far exceeded my expectations. His detailed work transformed an ordinary space into an extraordinary home for me and my family. He was thorough from planning to completion and clearly communicated the timing of the project. I could not have had a better experience; I consider Matt the best in the Valley and highly recommend."

"Chad and Scott did a fantastic job, from concept to completion of our project. We needed an interior wall, framing, door, drywall, texture, & painting, & all the details to enclose our kitchen from our entry. They understood our concept, and had the work done from start to finish in 2 weeks. Meticulous, detail-oriented, polite, & fun to have them here in our home are how we would describe our relationship with Chad & Scott. They even let us keep adding other small projects along with the wall construction, always being cheerful & accommodating. We would definitely recommend them to our friends & neighbors for any projects! Susan & Larry"

"I was very impressed with Sentri Homes - their customer service was excellent. They sent a subcontractor to install some vinyl laminate in my bathroom and he ended up getting glue all over the carpet in our bedroom. The sub ended up ghosting both me and Sentri, leaving me stuck with a ruined carpet. Sentri stuck with me for over a month to get the carpet replaced with the identical original and to get the vinyl job 100% completed. The carpet was a Home Depot exclusive and Sentri handled everything with them. I will be using Sentri for a much bigger renovation I have coming up soon, because I know that they will make sure everything gets done right no matter what problems come up. The vinyl looks great too."

Woodworking questions, answered by experts

Many modern homes have soffits, but older ones don’t, and you may be wondering why. Older homes have eaves that extend further beyond the home and help to circulate air, negating the need for a soffit. This style of building has faded away, therefore, modern homes need separate soffit installation. Modern soffits are more efficient than this older style and require less material to construct, saving homeowners money.

Balusters provide vertical support to make sure your stair railing and/or deck is as sturdy and safe as possible. These spindles help hold up the railing so people walking up or down stairs have something strong to hold onto. They can also act as a unique design element if they’re custom-made to suit a specific style or size requirement.

Many contractors prefer checks because they’re easy to track and have no associated fees. However, many also accept credit cards (though they might add a fee to cover their processing costs).

Landscape timbers can last 10 to 20 years in the ground when installed correctly. Pressure-treated timbers will last longer than non-treated ones, as pressure treatment makes the wood more rot-resistant. Wood exposed to high moisture levels or extreme temperature and weather fluctuations may not last as long as wood in drier areas with more consistent weather.

Wooden soffits, when properly cared for, can last between 10 and 25 years, depending on the type of wood and the climate you live in. Certain wood types will last longer than others, and you might want to consider the cost of replacing soffits when you break down the total project cost. While an initially higher-priced material might seem counterintuitive, it can make more financial sense if you don’t plan on moving.
