I'm Peter Harris and I am the owner/proprietor of Simple Works here in the Gallatin Valley. I specialize in home renovation with emphasis in kitchen and bathroom reworks. Simple Works does both home and commercial remodeling, small scale and large. I work with other business owners around the valley who, combined with my skill set, can get any job done! I enjoy meeting people and making their vision come to life through the renovation work Simple Works does. Call or email to get your project started today!

"I can’t say enough good things about working with Peter Harris. We had a construction emergency and Peter took care of it skillfully and efficiently. Just after we went under contract to sell a family member’s condo, a water leak ruined the flooring and some cabinetry throughout the home. Immediately we struggled to work with the insurance company and find a contractor. Sourcing a reliable craftsman in Bozeman’s market seemed nearly impossible, and if we didn’t get the damage fixed quickly and competently, the water was likely to cause even more damage and we may have lost our buyer. With high praise, our realtor referred us to Peter. We were thrilled when he agreed to take on our job and ecstatic when we saw his work product was above reproach. Working with Peter was a joy, as well. He started the project almost immediately, gathering information for the insurance claim and ordering supplies. We live several hours from Bozeman and he was fine collaborating directly with our realtor for day-to-day issues. Peter kept us informed throughout and reached out to us for decisions when he needed approvals. Two months after Peter started the work, we closed on the condo. Thanks, Peter!"

We LOVE weddings! It’s what we do. My wife, Kam, and I are looking for couples who LOVE great photos. We want to help you create the day you have always dreamed of. We are all about telling stories with your images. Your entire wedding is a great story but finding and creating little stories during the day is what you will remember most.

Welding questions, answered by experts

No, beams are the primary load-bearers for flooring or roofing systems, and they distribute the weight of the structure to your foundational supports, while joists bear far less weight and distribute their loads to the beams. Beams are usually thicker and longer, and they have support posts or foundation walls beneath them for support.

Some states require welders to be licensed and certified, while others don’t. However, it’s always a good idea to hire a licensed welder, regardless of requirements in your area, especially if you need welding for structural components of your home or gas lines. Licensed welders have gone through training and testing to prove their skills, so they’re less likely to make a mistake that could be detrimental to your home. Use Angi’s state licensing tool to determine whether your potential hire has a welding license.

Lally columns are named after their founder, John Lally, who owned a construction company in the 1800s. He invented the columns as a means of providing temporary support for beams and rafters in homes his company was renovating. The original Lally columns were also made of steel, although the inventory used a thicker gauge metal, which provided additional support for larger projects and long-term structural solutions.

Using a steel frame may raise the value of your home. Steel is more heat resistant, has better longevity, and doesn’t need any upkeep compared to traditional wood. You can also customize a steel build a little easier than other materials like brick, concrete, and vinyl—which have trouble bending and adapting to renovations.

The difference between a lintel and a beam is what loads each is responsible for supporting. A lintel is a type of beam that is responsible only for supporting the load above an opening, such as a window or door, and transfers the weight to the side walls around an opening. A beam supports the slab and transfers the load to nearby columns, which then disperse the load to the ground.
