"Fortunately, this company wasn't the normal seal of your driveway and run. This company removed any high spots, bumps, low spots, covered everything with a fresh surface of new asphalt and they ran roller machines over it for some hours. It looks great."

"We received a settlement for some damage to our property.  The settlement was initially for repairing the sagging floors and water damage under our porch but we also needed a new roof. We contacted several companies with little response.  Most didn't even seem interested in doing the work.  Mr. Walker responded right away and was able to do the work within our budget.  The quality of the work was outstanding and we couldn't be more pleased.  We would definitely recommend him to others.

"Red Bear Contracting was fabulous to work with. Tim and his team took care of working with my insurance company to ensure everything was covered and I didn't have to worry. The install of siding was beautifully done and customer service was a priority. Highly recommend!"

Asphalt Driveways questions, answered by experts

The choice between asphalt and concrete depends on your priorities, budget, and climate.

Concrete is generally more durable, lasting up to 50 years with minimal upkeep, and offers more customization options like staining and stamping, which can add more to a home's value. However, it is more expensive upfront and can be prone to cracking in cold climates where water can freeze and expand.

Asphalt is typically cheaper and quicker to install and is easier to repair. It performs better in colder climates. However, it requires more maintenance, including regular resealing, has a shorter lifespan, and can get hot and sticky in intense sunlight.

Ultimately, if durability and long-term value are key, concrete is often the better choice. If upfront cost and performance in cold weather are more important, asphalt may be preferable.

With proper maintenance, asphalt milling driveways can last 30 years or more. Over time, you’ll need to regularly sealcoat your driveway. You should also have your driveway inspected every few years and make any repairs as soon as they are necessary; this will prolong the lifespan of your driveway.

The cost to pour a driveway apron depends on the material and size. Concrete costs $3 to $10 per square foot, asphalt ranges from $2 to $5, and pavers are $5 to $15 per square foot. Additional expenses, like excavation, base material, and labor, can increase the total cost. For example, a standard 12x15-foot concrete apron could cost between $540 and $1,800, depending on local rates and additional work required. Always consult a local driveway paving contractor to get an accurate estimate tailored to your project.

Recycled asphalt is not better than gravel, but can be a good alternative. It is inexpensive, but not as low-cost as gravel, and doesn’t tend to last as long. Recycled asphalt isn’t as dusty as gravel and is more environmentally friendly. The black look can be something that homeowners prefer. No matter what, ensure you choose an experienced recycled asphalt contractor.

The dimensions of a driveway apron vary based on local building codes, the width of your driveway, and the distance between the driveway and the road. On average, aprons range from 12 to 24 feet wide and 8 to 18 feet long. Typically, the end of the apron connected to the driveway matches its width—such as 10 to 12 feet for a single-car driveway—while the end at the street flares out to allow cars to turn in and out more easily. In some areas, you may not be responsible for the portion of the apron that extends beyond the sidewalk, but this depends on local laws.
