"I had extensive hail damage and called Clay with Sprague. He handled 100% of everything from picking out and installing new windows, siding, roof, gutters, and a new deck. He also handled the insurance aspect of the process. All I had to do was stay out of the way. They were very professional and were able to deal with any situation as they came up. They were also on point with safety. I didn’t have to worry about any cutting corners, quality trumped speed. Thanks Sprague, I will use you next time for sure. Art Hazen"

Stucco questions, answered by experts

Stucco repair can best be described as a patch. It involves identifying the problem and fixing that specific damage with additional stucco. If no mold infiltration or an underlying leak is causing the damage, repair is most likely all you need. 

Remediation, on the other hand, involves removing the existing siding, fixing the underlying cause of the damage, and then reapplying stucco siding for that wall. It’s a more permanent fix that takes longer to complete and, hence, comes with a steeper price tag than repair.

Yes, you can apply stucco directly over brick, and the rough texture of the brick should be enough for the stucco to adhere to, even without a binding agent. Just be sure to clean the brick thoroughly before stuccoing, and allow 72 hours for the first coat of stucco to dry, even if it feels dry to the touch. The thicker portions that fill in the mortar joints will cure more slowly than the thinner portions over the brick faces.

Stucco will dry in two to three days, but you should wait one to two months to allow it to cure fully before you paint it. The curing process is slow, but leaving the material exposed to air and natural moisture will help it reach its maximum strength. If you live in a hot, arid climate, wait a month before painting. Wait two months before painting if you live in a more moderate or wet climate.

The spring and summer are the busiest times of year for stucco siding professionals, so you could save money by doing the work in the off-season: the late fall.
