"We bought our house in August 2024 and didn’t have the time to even think about our gutters with all of the other house projects we needed done. We had Tanner come out this spring and just expected a simple clean out…he meticulously cleaned and checked every inch to make sure things were in good shape! He exceeded our expectations and took away the hassle of another household chore. We will definitely be using him every time from now on!"

"We had him do a huge concrete patio. He did a great job and we love it! Now, we are looking at having him extend our driveway. He is a very nice person, a hard worker, and cares about you & your project(s). I would recommend him!"

"Todd and Jesse came out to my home, wanted to know my concerns concerning my heating/ac needs. Both did a thorough evalution of my home underneath crawl space, and one day later gave me a solid bid for the work to be performed with the pricing. One week later, installation started. They are totally professional installers, great attitudes, customer service oriented, addressing any concerns along the way. This company stuck to their bid pricing, and did not try to overcharge for anything. They went above and beyond in making sure i was happy. Todd, Jesse and this company is totally awesome to work with, couldnt be happier."

"I was moving out of Missoula and needed a cleaner to make sure my house was spotless for new tenants. She went above and beyond , even working with the landlord to ensure everything was as expected. While all this was happening I wasn’t even present, everything was taken care of while I was in the go. I completely recommend Desiree."

Deck Cleaning questions, answered by experts

Before installing a deck, you must build a base for the deck to rest upon, often made of compacted soil or gravel. While gravel is an optional material, it helps with drainage. Some contractors also recommend installing a weed control membrane, which helps provide a solid foundation for the frame. In the case of an elevated deck, a pro will often lay down a concrete slab as a foundation.

Hangers are one way of attaching stair stringers to a deck. These metal hangers are usually adjustable, allowing you to find the ideal angle for a secure installation. They’re the best choice for installing longer staircases, such as one on a two-story deck, to reduce the load on the deck frame while keeping the stairs stable.

The best way to sand a deck is by cleaning it, sanding the boards and stairs with 60- or 80-grit sandpaper, and sanding the railings and posts with 80-grit sandpaper. You should sand in the direction of the wood grain to avoid damaging the timber. When sanding your deck, use medium pressure and aim for an even sand. Pressing too hard with a sander can damage decks, as most are softwoods.

Building codes for deck railings can vary by location, so it's important to consult your local regulations before construction. Generally, a guardrail is required for any deck that is more than 30 inches above the ground.

For residential properties, the standard minimum height for a deck railing is 36 inches. However, some states and municipalities have stricter requirements; for example, California and Washington mandate railings that are at least 42 inches high. Therefore, a 42-inch railing is not considered too high and may be required in your area or chosen voluntarily for additional safety.

In addition to height requirements, codes also specify other safety features, such as the maximum spacing between balusters to ensure they are close enough to prevent a child from squeezing through.

Building a deck without a permit could lead to fines for both the homeowner and the contractor. The exact penalties will depend on your state and municipal building laws. You might also be required to remove the deck and apply for a permit before you can build another. While it might be tempting to skip the permit to save a few bucks, it’ll cost you much more if you’re caught.
