"I hired Perfectos to clean out and organize my garage. I had lots of boxes I needed broken down and furniture I needed hauled out. They arrived on time and got it all done in a few hours. I am super impressed with their work and would recommend them to anyone needing help with cleaning or projects around the house."

Montana Timbercraft is a licensed Montana contractor specializing in fine carpentry, timber framing, and custom woodwork for homeowners in the Mission and Flathead Valleys. With 32 years of experience across all phases of light wood-frame construction, I bring a furniture-maker's eye to every project — from exposed timber framing and custom cabinetry to full design-build remodels.\n\nServices include timber framing, custom cabinetry and built-ins, kitchen and bath remodels, statement trim and millwork, finish carpentry, decks, and home additions. I also design and build custom furniture, so if you've got something one-of-a-kind in mind, I can likely build it.\n\nEvery project gets the same standard I'd want in my own home: clean work, honest pricing, no shortcuts. Design-build means you work with one person from first sketch to final walkthrough — no gaps between vision and execution.\nTaking on a limited number of projects. ""We had a great experience with Warnock LC for our attic insulation and bathroom ventilation installation. Even with a massive amount of old insulation to clear out, the crew was fast, professional, organized, and got the job done quickly. Their prices are very reasonable, and their customer service is top-notch. Highly recommend!""

"Storm damage on my over 100 year old house required a new roof. High demand for roofing made getting a good roofer nearly impossible. Angi gave me several options. THE WORKS team responded the next day and gave me a quote that was very reasonable compared to local quotes I had gotten and scheduled the job for completion before winter. True to their word they brought a large crew of skilled roofers who completed the job to my wishes in record time. They were responsive to work with. Would hire them again."

"Other than that, I was happy with them. American Home Shield recommended Destiny Air of Alvin, TX. I was happy with them until now. In July, the 10 month old air conditioner, dehumidifier did not work. Someone came out on July 6th and supposedly fixed it. I was gone until coming home the end of July and the humidity upstairs was the same. Someone came out on August 8th and repaired it as of today, it is drier upstairs. In the meanwhile, black mold came through the air ducts. Someone is supposed to come out on August 29th in the morning to take care of this. Today is the 25th, I have been calling them up to seven times a day with no response. The downstairs AC is 3 years old. Coming home on the 19th after a lovely trip- that AC did not work. It took 6 days for a service man to come out. He was 2 hours late, discovered something had to be replaced and it had to be ordered. It should take 2-3 days. Today, is 6 days later and nobody has called me back. I'm sitting here in the heat, can't really live upstairs because of the black mold. I'm at a loss for what to do."

Bathroom before picture. The existing sink sticks out a couple of inches into the doorway.
A functional sink was installed that did not come out into the doorway. A custom cabinet needed to be built for the plumbing.

Storm Shelters FAQs, answered by experts

How long it takes to build a log cabin depends on a variety of factors, including its size and design, and whether or not you have to clear the land. Construction can take a few weeks for a prefab log cabin on an established site, but up to eight or nine months for a custom cabin on undeveloped land. In comparison, the timeline to build a house is typically four to 12 months.

Unfortunately, there are many disadvantages to stone houses. They are slow to build and the materials are pricey, both of which balloon the total cost. Stone walls require a more robust foundation, which costs more to install. Running plumbing, electrical, and HVAC through a stone house is much more difficult too, so homeowners need to seriously consider if the aesthetic benefit is worth the cost of building with stone. One of the questions to ask a masonry contractor is if a similar aesthetic can be achieved with another material.

A simple A-frame chicken coop can take as little as three hours to build, but a more substantial all-in-one coop to house a large flock can take four or five days to build. Consult a local handyperson or custom coop builder for a time estimate based on the specific details of your project.

Yes, you can finance new construction, though the process often requires a different type of loan than one for an existing property. There are several financing options available:

  • Construction-to-Permanent Loan: This is a common option where a single loan covers the building costs and then converts into a traditional mortgage once construction is complete and you move in.

  • Construction Loan (Stand-Alone): This type of loan provides funding only for the duration of the construction project. Once the house is built, you will need to pay the loan in full, typically by securing a separate, standard mortgage.

  • Builder Financing: Some custom homebuilders offer their own financing options, which may only require a down payment to begin the building process.

  • Bridge Loan: This can be a useful short-term loan to fund your new construction while you are in the process of selling your old home.

  • Home Equity Options: If you are building a second home, you might be able to use a home equity line of credit (HELOC) or a cash-out refinance on your current property.

It's also important to be aware that some lenders may have restrictions on financing for DIY house builds, so be sure to verify that you can secure financing before starting your project.

Complex plumbing is tricky and expensive in an off-the-ground dwelling like this. By considering options like composting toilets, rainwater collection, and gray-water sinks, you save money and help the environment.
