Central Air Heating & Cooling, Venting/Ducting, Gas Pipe. New Construction, Remodel, Change outs. Hotchkiss Heating & Air has been locally owned and operated since 2005. We have a knowledgeable and friendly staff that is here to help you with all of your HVAC needs.

"We have used Hotchkiss Heating & Air multiple times for multiple services. We have always been given professional, honest, accurate assessment and recommendations. Once we had a furnace issue, we got one previous estimate before having having Hotchkiss give a quote. The previous company insisted that our only option was to.completely replace our entire furnace, which was going to cost over $3000. Also, we would have to go without a furnace for up to a week, while we waited for the replacement to come. In the interim, we contacted Hotchkiss, who immediately sent an employee right over to see if they would be able to replace it quicker. The technician easily determined that our furnace did NOT need to be replaced at all. In fact, it was a simple solution replacing a small part. They were able to change out the part, On the spot, And our total bill came to $75. Since that day, we have never considered contacting any other businnes for our heating and air needs. We are customers of Hotchkiss Heating & Air as long as we reside in their service area. We are always consistently, impressed by all aspects of our dealings with them. They are professional, respond very rapidly, and we know we can always trust that they dont overcharge us or give us inaccurate assessments of our issues. We would highly recommend this business every time."

Structural Engineering questions, answered by experts

If you intend to do the majority of the work yourself, you can pay to hire an architect or a structural engineer to ensure your home remains structurally sound. They can help with the planning to make sure everything is up to code and safe for your family. On the other hand, if you’re not sure your home will be completely safe when you’ve completed the project, let a pro do the job.

Cathedral ceilings make a statement in your home, but at the cost of your attic space. Normal attics are wide open, which allows warm air to move around and exit your home. Because of this, cathedral ceilings make your home less energy efficient and put your ceiling at risk of venting issues if you’re not careful. They also reduce your attic storage space, potentially cause an echo, and even make it harder to change a light bulb.

You should pick steel for your new support beam for a few reasons. While steel is more expensive than other materials, such as laminated veneer lumber or glulam, it offers the following benefits:

  • Fire-resistant

  • Unaffected by pests

  • Longer-lasting

  • Stronger against water damage (when galvanized against rust)

Structural engineers can perform various inspections on different structures in your home. These inspections usually include a report detailing the engineer’s findings and recommendations for repairs so you can determine your next course of action for repairs, replacements, or new builds. Some of the most common structural engineering reports include:

  • Full home inspection: $350–$1,000

  • Foundation: $300–$800

  • Load-bearing walls: $300–$1,000

  • Roof: $150–$600

  • Chimney: $200–$500

The primary reason homes have crawl spaces is so the foundation can reach down below the frost line to avoid dangerous soil movement and structural damage when the ground freezes. They’re more popular in colder climates where the ground freezes down to a few feet, and slabs are most popular in warmer areas where there is no frost line. Crawl spaces also provide a space for utility lines to run where they’re at less of a risk of freezing.
