"I hired Shawn for some basic repairs (replacing exhaust fan, fixing molding, door repair, etc.) and he did an excellent job. Based on his expertise, pricing and quality of work I had him replace the flooring in my rental. He did an excellent job. I just kept giving him more tasks a d jobs until my renal looked phenomenal and I was able to place it in the market. So glad to have found him as I know I’ll use him for many jobs in the future."

"Taylor Made is professional and went out of his way to meet me at Lowe’s to help me pick out siding and colors for my front door, he paid out of pocket for samples for me to take home. He worked endlessly with my insurance to make sure they paid the full amount for my roof. He met us at the shingle company to help me pick out the top of the line shingles for my roof. Taylor is prompt at getting me bids and contracts emailed to me and he follows through with everything on the contract with out me having to call repeatedly to ask if he will be finishing the work, Taylor Made has up to date payment methods, and is always willing to work with you on payments. I will continue to use Taylor Made Construction and highly recommend him to anyone."

Doors questions, answered by experts

Yes, it is essential that you perform bi-annual maintenance on your bifold doors. This means checking the hardware, cleaning the door and the tracks, and lubricating the locks. Most of this work can be done on your own, but if you wish for a more thorough inspection, you should call in a professional door repair company.

On average, the cost to install or replace bifold doors ranges from $100 to $300, making them one of the most inexpensive interior door options. The final price depends on several factors, including the door's material and design, with hollow core and solid core doors being on the lower end of the cost spectrum. A local door installer will likely charge between $40 and $90 per hour. While a skilled DIYer may be able to install bifold doors, as most come with the necessary hardware, the doors can be heavy, and improper installation can lead to misalignment issues.

Inspecting your storm door regularly is important to catch any issues early and ensure its proper functionality. It's recommended to perform a thorough inspection at least once every season. This means you should check your storm door for any signs of wear, damage, or malfunction approximately four times per year—during spring, summer, fall, and winter.

Start by checking the top or side edge of the door. Look for a certification label or metal tag stamped with details like the fire rating and information on the manufacturer. Even if it’s painted over, the tag should still be visible. Next, look along the edges for slim intumescent strips. They’re designed to swell up and seal gaps when exposed to heat. Finally, check if the door closes itself. Most fire doors have a self-closing mechanism, like an overhead closer or spring hinges. If none of these are obvious, contact a fire safety professional to help verify your door.

Soft-close hinges are worth it if the benefits are a top priority. The biggest benefit of soft-close hinges is that they reduce stress on the cabinet frames, and extending the longevity of these pricey furnishings is a worthwhile investment. Plus, fixing noisy kitchen cabinets helps protect kids with careless fingers, reduces marks on the frames, and creates a quieter living space.
