"I highly recommend James Monroe Construction. They recently did some painting for us. They also made some repairs to some of our sheetrock and wallpaper. They did an awesome job. It looks great. They are professional and respectful. I will hire them again."

"Daniel did a great job installing doors and drawers in my custom kitchen and bathroom cabinets. He was careful not to scratch the finish, installed and adjusted hinges and drawer slides so that everything hung and worked properly. He installed the hardware as well. His work was excellent."

"Justin is one of the most reliable handyman we have found since moving to the Hattiesburg, MS area. Justin was punctual and had great communication skills. He was good at letting me know he was on his way. When I met up with him to purchase supplies he had already started gathering up what he needed before I got there. Then he made sure I knew what was on his cart was what we agreed too. Justin has great time management. When he told me it would take three days to do the job that is exactly what it took. He was good about picking up his mess everyday before he left and was gone before my husband was home from work. We did not have to deal with construction in the evening. Justin does quality work at a fair price. We cant imagine anyone else doing our handyman work."

Siding questions, answered by experts

For homeowners looking for a less expensive alternative to metal siding, the most popular choice is vinyl siding. At just $3 to $12 per square foot, vinyl siding can cost much less than some types of metal siding. Other popular alternatives include fiber cement and engineered wood. Consult a local siding contractor to determine which type of siding will work best for your home.

OSB is a common material used in sheathing, so when OSB prices go up, so does the cost of sheathing. Depending on the economy and supply chain, increased costs can reduce demand, though some homeowners proceed with their projects despite the elevated expenses.

Siding and cladding are two popular exterior wall coverings that protect homes from the elements and provide insulation, but they differ in design and application. Siding is applied directly to a home’s exterior, providing some insulation and basic shielding from the elements. In contrast, cladding is installed indirectly over furring strips, creating a ventilated air gap for enhanced insulation and moisture control.

This is a tricky answer because how fast you work, how large your team is, and what type of siding you install will all determine your total time. One person placing bricks around an entire house can take weeks, but a team of 10 could complete the job in just a few days. Installing siding is a job that’s best done by a pro, as they are experienced and will perform solid work. A rough guideline for DIYers is to budget 15 minutes per square foot of siding.

You should plan to stain or refinish your home's cedar siding every three to seven years to maintain its appearance and provide maximum protection, though some estimates suggest a range of four to six years. The exact frequency depends on several factors, including your local climate, exposure to severe weather like direct sunlight, rain, and wind, the quality of the initial stain application, the type of stain used, and the overall condition and quality of the wood.

For homes in harsh climates with high humidity and significant sun exposure, you should plan on staining as often as every three years, while those in milder locations may only need to do so every seven years. For the longest-lasting protection in particularly harsh climates, consider using an opaque stain.

If you are looking for a lower-maintenance alternative, you might consider vinyl or aluminum siding. While the initial installation cost can be higher, they do not require as much upkeep and can offer more value over time, especially in areas with excessive rainfall or high humidity.
