"Mr. Davis and his crew did excellent work for us. They replaced wood in areas that were rotted around windows, dormirs and eaves. They also replaced soffits and rotted siding. Roof repair was required in some areas around dormir. They were always on time, kept us informed of progress each day and they always left the work area clean. We are so pleased with his work that we have already asked him to return to do inside work and have recommended him to friends. Mr. Davis is skilled in multiple of construction and home repair. Terry Davis has done another project for us. He is replacing all of our 19 windows. He and his crew have done an amazing job. The site is always left clean. The windows look wonderful. They had to remove siding and trim, which was well done. They then repainted the surrounding area around the windows. I cannot recommend highly enough Terry and his crew."

Windows questions, answered by experts

Yes, you can install a bay window in an existing house. You’ll need to have a structural engineer draw up plans to add the necessary support to your exterior load-bearing walls and a general contractor to make the changes to the framing around the new wall opening. This will cost an average of $3,000. After that work is done, a window installer can set the new bay window in place.

Wood windows will help keep an old home's charm, but they are more expensive and harder to maintain. Vinyl or fiberglass windows offer the best benefits in terms of durability and ease of care while still somewhat blending into the look and feel of an older home.  If the vinyl or fiberglass looks too out of place, consider adding shutters or something similar. The cost of plantation shutters is about $2,990, but the charm they bring to a home is unmatched.

In short, it depends. After 20 years, the glass in your windows is less energy efficient, which can cause increased electricity bills. You might also see signs of water damage or natural wear and tear over the years. However, with proper maintenance, some window frames can last up to 50 years, so you may only need to replace the glass to save on energy.

At the same time, window replacement is a major investment, so replacing the glass in rooms most impacted by outdoor temperatures is one way to avoid going all-in to replace your windows.

Making a window in a basement larger costs an average of $4,200. You’ll need to pay an average of $550 to have a structural engineer plan the project, $500 to $1,500 for the installation labor, and an average of $2,200 for the excavation and window well installation. The remainder will go toward pulling permits, installing trim, and repairing drywall on the interior.

Yes, but professionals use specialized equipment and cleaning solutions to safely achieve streak-free, long-lasting results.
