"The contracted the work off to a third party. Jon took longer than expected. The windows was installed pretty good from the looks. Communication could have been better with knowing the job will take longer and what types of trims I wanted for the windows. As the contractor that was hired for this job by this company. Did a good job with putting up decent trim. As for the new windows they look great. I purchased the myself and hired sentri homes to install them. I will need to have a my siding on my house redone to be closer to the new windows so the gaps are not so obvious. That was not expected at first. But from old storm windows and not knowing how they were put in originally. There was some unknown things that was learned from the job being completed. I will have the siding of the house slightly done to match really good for what I wanted later on. My only concern is better communication with sentri homes. Overall they were great when I did talk to them."

"The work was good but in the end I felt taken advantage of by the tricky work estimate approach they used. The estimate I received included a couple hundred dollars worth of potential supplies they *might* use but ended up not using but I still had to pay full price as the estimate was for *the job* not *labor + actual parts.* They took advantage of my inexperience with how contractors might word things. It felt shady. I gave them a shot at making it right but they politely declined and explained I still had to pay for the job regardless of parts costs. Please be careful with the wording from this company in their estimates and make sure you get your parts as actual cost. The work was fine, but not 5 star worthy. There were clamps around existing pipes they unscrewed that were still open and loose so things were not put back as they found them. Lastly, their staff came back onto my property to add one little thing and although I was expecting the addition, I was also expecting a call to let me know they were on their way to do so. It got done but I was never notified before or even after the work was done and it felt like trespassing to us, especially when getting in the back yard meant climbing over a fence to do so. I wont be using them again but I do appreciate the lesson learned, albeit an expensive one."

"My wife and I have built two houses in the Brandon area and Tony has built both of them for us. As new homebuilders in 2008/2009 his knowledge and experience was a great resource, and the horror stories you hear from people about building houses certainly did not apply to our situation. He did such a great job building the house and it looked so great that when we decided to move from Reservoir Brandon to South Brandon we put the house on the market on Friday and we had an accepted offer on Monday!! This was in June 2011, so the housing market was still pretty tight, so it was definitely a miraculous result!
We had such a great time building the first time, when we started thinking of building our second house in September 2011 Tony was our first call. Again, we had a great experience and we are living happily in our dream home! The only sad thing about that is we won't be building any more houses!!
Tony has become a friend to our family as he also built my wife's parents house which is next door to our house. He is always willing to help and goes the extra mile to satisfy his customers. It is always a pleasure to deal with Christian businessmen that let their personal beliefs and genuine integrity show through in how they do business. This is very true in Tony's case and I can guarantee he will go any length to ensure your satisfaction. Y'all ask him to bring you by our house if you want to see the results!

Home Building questions, answered by experts

Yes, a home builder or contractor should have the proper licensing and insurance. Licensing requirements vary by state and municipality, but most states mandate that a builder holds at least a general contractor’s license. For specialized work such as plumbing, electrical, roofing, or sewage systems, individual licenses may be required, in which case the builder may subcontract the work. You can use Angi’s state licensing tool to review your local guidelines and confirm a builder's credentials. As you browse professionals, you can also look for the “Angi Certified” badge. This indicates the business meets our certification standards, which include passing a criminal background check, holding applicable state and local licenses, and maintaining an average rating of 3.0 or better.

How long it takes to build a log cabin depends on a variety of factors, including its size and design, and whether or not you have to clear the land. Construction can take a few weeks for a prefab log cabin on an established site, but up to eight or nine months for a custom cabin on undeveloped land. In comparison, the timeline to build a house is typically four to 12 months.

Ranch and colonial-style homes are often the most affordable to build. They have a common layout with available designs that are easy to adjust in simple ways without having to spend too much on a structural engineer or architect. Both types of homes' symmetry, simple roofs, and often one or two-story plans mean they often fall in the $150 to $200 square-foot range, putting them right around average.

A custom home is one that you design from the ground up, allowing you to customize everything from the square footage to the interior layout to all of the materials used. A spec home is one that a builder has designed and gotten approvals for. Spec homes may give you some limited options for the layout and materials, but most of the build is pre-set. Custom homes cost more and take longer to build.

Typically, architects do not build homes in a hands-on sense of doing the actual framing, roofing, or other building. Architects usually do not have the training and experience to build the homes they design. An architect would need to know how to do the specific trades required to build a house, which is possible but not a common practice. A general contractor or homebuilder typically oversees the actual details of building the house that the architect designs.
