"It took me from May 4, 2021 until May 20, 2021 to get my roof and sheetrock repaired. They damaged my a/c due to nail holes in my line and claimed it wasn't their fault, had to argue to get my a/c man paid. They tried to add on to my bill for money already being paid by my insurance company to them for paint and decided not to replace materials without my consent that was included with my insurance money, also. Threw materials in my garbage can that I paid for but couldn't ever use again. They still have not given me an itemized bill or statement showing me what I or my insurance company paid for. They were supposed to do gutters but not after all of this. Will NOT use or recommend them."

In most cases, a pre-hung door is a better option, not only because it’s far easier to install as a DIY project, but also because you’ll get a new frame and a new door at the same time for a more complete upgrade. Replacing a door costs more with pre-hung doors, but the additional investment is usually well worth the money. Pre-hung doors require fewer tools and less experience to install properly. With that being said, a slab door might be better if you’re on a tight budget or have a custom wall opening size that a pre-hung door won’t match.

Most of the time, a squeaky door is the result of dry hinges, where metal parts rub together without enough lubrication. Dirt, dust, or rust can also build up inside the hinge and add to the friction. Loose screws or slight misalignment can shift things just enough to create that irritating squeaking noise. Worn-out hinges or swelling wood from humidity changes can also be part of the problem on older doors. A good cleaning and proper lubrication usually take care of it, but if the squeak sticks around, it’s worth checking for bigger issues with the hinges or alignment. 

You can use a variety of wood to build a barn door, but the most common options include 1-by boards and 2-by boards for the backing and the decorative boards on the front of the door. Softwoods like pine will save you some money and should hold up well, while hardwoods like maple and oak will stand up to more wear and tear. You could also build the backer out of plywood to minimize the cuts you need to make. Whatever you decide on, make sure the width of the wood is compatible with the mounting brackets you buy.

When choosing between an inward- or outward-swinging door, there’s no right answer. Inward-swinging doors are great for avoiding debris and keeping hinges inside for added security. Alternatively, outward-swinging doors can give you more space inside your home, and some homeowners feel they’re harder to force open. Ultimately, neither is “better,” but a door expert can help you figure out which fits your needs.

You should prime interior doors before painting for the best results. If you do paint directly on the wood, you could see some of the grain patterns show through the paint, in which case you’d need to apply additional coats. Priming the surface before painting will reduce the number of coats and can better cover the grain pattern for a clean, finished look.
