"I loved their customer service but they just didn't provide the type of service I was looking for. I need a large overhaul of already-grown weeds in my yard (not just prevention) and, so, they don't take care of weed removal. If I wasn't already with another weed control company, I'd then to TruGreen."

"Very professional service. Price was as quoted and less than local competitors. Showed up a little late but contacted us to let us know he was running behind first. Took about an hour to complete the work. Would definitely use them again."

"It took a while for Dave and me to make contact, to be honest I was 1 phone call away from giving up on them. But finally I was able to reach Dave, he said it would be better to reach him by phone instead of email and text. Once we finally met and agreed upon what needed to be done to my sun starved front lawn. Everything went well. Hatchie Tree Service cut back some of the branches of my tree. They installed a drainage system to divert some of the water that eroded most of the soil and grass from my side yard and they installed nice green healthy Sod. The tree guy came first. A little early for me 7:40 am (I am not a morning person), but I understand the reasoning, to get ahead of the sun and heat of the day. He trimmed the tree back and waited for the rest of the crew. When they showed up they got right to work. Hand digging the trench to install the drain. Back filling the soil. Dumping new soil to cover the exposed roots from the massive tree. Finally laying the Sod. Hatchie Tree Service did an excellent job. The hauled off all of the leaves, limbs and debris. They swept up and used a blower to ensure that my driveway and sidewalk was clean. They watered in my Sod and left me with instructions of how to keep it alive. A couple of days after they completed the job, we had almost 9 inches of rain fall and it pulled my drain up and some of the sod with it. I contacted Dave and they were back out here the next day to fix the problem. This time they cemented the drain down. I am very happy with the work that they performed. Points were taken away due to the amount of time it took for me to schedule the initial interview. Other than that I would highly recommend Hatchie Tree Service."

Weed Services questions, answered by experts

Clover is a sustainable, low-maintenance alternative to turfgrass, allowing homeowners to put away the mower while enjoying a lush and consistent lawn. The plant also attracts pollinators, adds nitrogen to low-nutrient soil, and holds up in a range of climates. Consult a local lawn care professional to determine whether replacing your grass with clover is right for your yard.

Vinegar is known to be a contact herbicide, which means it kills the foliage it comes in contact with. Because of the high acetic acid concentration, horticultural vinegar kills weeds and grass more effectively. However, keep in mind that high amounts and multiple applications can affect the soil by lowering the pH levels.

You should add 1 to 4 inches of mulch, depending on your garden type and needs. Keep in mind that no amount of mulch can completely prevent weeds, but a heavier coverage (closer to 4 inches) can suppress weeds enough that you are only seeing them sprout every few weeks. Finer mulch prevents weeds more effectively than large mulch, so if you’re using mulched leaves or shredded bark, 1 to 2 inches will likely suffice, while 3 to 4 inches is best for larger mulch, like bark chips or straw.

There are organic herbicide options that will kill grass but not flowers, including white vinegar or a dish soap solution. Commercial selective herbicides can also target grass over other plants, but read the instructions carefully to avoid damaging your garden. Herbicides that kill grass but not flowers usually include ingredients like clethodim and sethoxydim. Otherwise, your best bet will be to weed by hand.

Sealing pavers helps cut down on weed growth, but it won’t wipe it out entirely. What it does really well is harden the joint sand—especially if you’re using a sealant with polymer additives—so weeds have a much harder time breaking through. It also blocks airborne seeds from settling in the cracks and keeps debris from building up. This results in fewer weeds, easier maintenance, and a cleaner-looking surface. Just remember, sealing is a strong defense—not a one-and-done solution. Stay on top of sweeping, spot-treating, and resealing every few years to keep your weeds in check.
