"Charlie and his crew arrived on time and finished in the allotted time that they said they would. They did an excellent job with the masonry and the tuck pointing, and they cleaned up completely after they were finished. I would definitely hire them again and recommend them."

"We hired Palmer Foundations and Flatwork to pour our foundation, porches, chopped walls, and floors, and let me just say ? they absolutely knocked it out of the park! From start to finish, their team was professional, efficient, and incredibly skilled. Every single detail was executed with precision, and the final result truly exceeded our expectations. Not only does everything look phenomenal, but it?s also solid, clean, and built to last. They showed up when they said they would, communicated clearly throughout the project, and worked hard even through some tough conditions to get the job done right. If you?re looking for a concrete crew that takes pride in their work and delivers flawless results, look no further than Palmer Foundations and Flatwork. We couldn?t be happier with how everything turned out. Highly, highly recommend!"

"He not only did it right, he had a huge mess to fix after Ameren came through and tore everything up to lay a larger natural gas line for the charcoal plant. They came and fixed it ( if you can call it that). It lasted 1 year and it was crumbled. Juan came in tore everything out and it is not not only beautiful, but it was done well enough it is going to last for years. This is not the first job we had him do, all the jobs were done professionally and in a very timely manner."

Masonry questions, answered by experts

A major mistake during masonry work is using standard mortar instead of freeze-thaw-rated mixes. Standard mortar fails rapidly during MO winters. Homeowners also err by applying new mortar over old joints without removing at least three-quarters of an inch of the deteriorated material. Furthermore, applying sealers to damp brick traps moisture inside, which accelerates damage. Always address the underlying water source before sealing your exterior walls.

Helpful?

Repairing deteriorated joints through tuckpointing is highly effective for masonry work, as mortar breaks down much faster than brick in Rolla. Crack injection for block foundations is also a smart repair. However, you must replace the structural units entirely if the brick faces have spalled from freeze-thaw damage or if clay soil pressure causes foundation walls to bow inward. Address minor damage early before it requires full replacement.

Helpful?

To handle masonry work effectively, keep freeze-thaw-rated mortar on hand. Rolla experiences up to 60 freeze-thaw cycles annually, making standard mixes fail quickly. You should also stock supplies to clean efflorescence, as the local humidity and karst groundwater create these white mineral deposits often. Finally, store cold-weather-appropriate materials so you are prepared to fix minor cracks during unpredictable late fall and early spring temperature swings.

Helpful?

Combine masonry work with exterior drainage corrections to protect your foundation from shifting clay soils. Fixing mortar without addressing poor grading guarantees rapid re-failure. You should also pair chimney repairs with roof flashing updates, since ice storms in Rolla regularly damage both systems simultaneously. Finally, coordinate retaining wall repairs with landscaping projects to avoid redundant excavation in the hilly Ozark terrain during the April-to-October construction window.

Helpful?

Completing masonry work before November stops water from freezing and expanding inside cracks during harsh winters. It also reduces water intrusion during heavy spring rains. Over time, sound foundations resist the gradual settling caused by MO karst geology and clay soils. Maintaining your brick and block structures preserves property value in the university market and improves energy efficiency by reducing cold air drafts in older homes.
