The term "gutters" actually refers to a full system of pieces that help to keep aluminum gutters in place. The other parts needed when installing gutters include end caps, hangers, fasteners, end caps, and downspouts. For most homes, it's necessary to space downspouts every 30 to 40 feet.

You can remove your gutters before painting, but it's rarely required. It can be easier to paint gutters on the ground once you or a pro have removed them, but replacing them afterward can be challenging. In these cases, removing gutters may be impractical. No—gutters should be designed and properly installed so they are ready to handle any level of rainflow from your roof.
