Redesigning your home's exterior is closely related to the price of remodeling its exterior. Redesigning may include anything from reshaping the entire home to simply updating the materials that cover and protect it. Stucco repair can best be described as a patch. It involves identifying the problem and fixing that specific damage with additional stucco. If no mold infiltration or an underlying leak is causing the damage, repair is most likely all you need.
Remediation, on the other hand, involves removing the existing siding, fixing the underlying cause of the damage, and then reapplying stucco siding for that wall. It’s a more permanent fix that takes longer to complete and, hence, comes with a steeper price tag than repair.
On average, EIFS costs more than traditional stucco, both due to its complex materials and tricky installation. You'll pay between $7 and $9 per square foot for traditional stucco installation and $8 to $14 per square foot for EIFS. Contact a local siding contractor to get an accurate estimate for EIFS or stucco installation based on your project specifications.
Installing stucco over brick can add longevity and durability to your siding while protecting it from deterioration due to exposure to the elements. However, stucco over brick does have a few downsides. You’ll spend more time and money on maintenance and repairs, and your siding may be more susceptible to cracking.
When cleaning stucco siding, it is recommended to use a pressure washer with a psi (pounds per square inch) between 1,500 and 2,000. This range provides sufficient power to remove dirt and grime without causing damage to the stucco surface. It's important to avoid using excessive psi as it can chip or crack the stucco.
Using a wider spray nozzle and keeping a safe distance of about seven to 10 feet from the siding helps ensure a gentle and effective cleaning process. Always follow the manufacturer's guidelines and adjust the psi accordingly based on the condition of your stucco and the specific requirements of your pressure washer.
