"Excellent experience from start to finish. They installed a dog door, a bathroom exhaust fan, and a couple ceiling fans, and everything was completed professionally and with great attention to detail. They showed up on time, kept the work area clean, and made sure everything worked perfectly before leaving. The pricing was fair, communication was excellent, and the quality of the workmanship exceeded my expectations. I would definitely hire them again and highly recommend them to anyone looking for reliable home improvement services"

"I did have Davis & Son repair my Heating system and they did a very good job. When I called to have them install a gas line (about 10 feet), they were going to get back to me with a quote and timeline. That was a month ago - nothing. I called and had another firm complete the work in 3 hours. Disappointed that they never called back."

"I swear I did this rating before. They were fast, professional, and did a good job for less than others quoted. They were done before some other guys even called back for an estimate. Use Roto-Rooter and get the job done, skipping the headache."

Toilets questions, answered by experts

The lifespan of a toilet can vary significantly. While the porcelain body itself can last up to 50 years or more with proper care, most plumbers suggest an average functional lifespan of 10 to 25 years, and many homeowners replace their toilets after about 20 years.

A toilet's longevity is influenced by factors like maintenance quality, hard water buildup, and damage to the finish. It's also important to note that internal components have much shorter lifespans than the bowl; for example, flappers may last only a few years, while fill valves can last around 10 years.

Even if an older toilet is still functional, consider upgrading to a high-efficiency model to save on water costs.

Even if you’re not very handy, DIY toilet repair is something many people can handle. However, that doesn’t mean that every repair project is something to try to take on yourself.

On paper, replacing a toilet flange is rather straightforward. However, it requires heavy lifting and critical thinking, especially if things don’t go according to plan.

The main causes for a leaky toilet flapper include wear and tear or a broken or incorrectly installed toilet flapper chain. If your toilet flapper is torn or deteriorated, it can’t provide a proper seal to keep water from running. Meanwhile, a chain that has come loose, was moved, or just wasn’t installed right can prevent your flapper from fully closing.

A high pitch noise after flushing is likely caused by the fill valve being clogged with debris. You can repair this and eliminate the noise by removing the fill valve from the tank, and then cleaning the valve screen. Place the clean fill valve back in the tank and flush as normal.

The Thanksgiving holiday period is one of the busiest times of the year for plumbers. Both Thanksgiving Day and the day after, often called Black Friday or "Brown Friday" by plumbing professionals, see a significant increase in service requests. This is because a house full of guests, large holiday meals, and unfamiliarity with the home's plumbing can lead to clogged drains, garbage disposal issues, and sewer line backups. Outside of the holidays, the busiest weekdays for plumbers are typically Monday and Tuesday, as many people discover plumbing problems over the weekend but wait to call for service. Despite the holiday, you can rest assured that many plumbers work on Thanksgiving and Black Friday to handle the surge in emergency calls.
