"while I was on Angies List looking for a concrete company to replace my driveway I somehow (inadvertently) did something that sent out a request for a quote to a couple companies (through angies list). One of the companies that Angie's list send this request to was Hallows Construction. They called me so i decided it would be fine to have them come and give me an estimate. We made appointment for Friday 1/15 @ 3:30pm. they did not show up. So, I called them and they were apologetic and rescheduled for Wednesday 1/20 at 7;30am Once again, they did not show up. If this company can't even come give me a quote then they should not get anyone's business. AND MORE IMPORTANTLY ANGIE'S LIST SHOULD NOT ENDORSE THEM!"

"I hired Vince Anderson of Fence and Concrete Masters to redo my front deck on my house. He started work approximately March of 2024. As of today, 9/22/2025 it is still unfinished and he has not responded to my attempts at contact since October 2024. Most of it has to be redone. Which has been extremely frustrating and expensive because no one wants to finish a messed up job. All previous reviews I?ve read since then (my mistake of not researching him prior) he has rebuttals putting off everything back into his customers. He is a master at BS and reflecting blame in order to avoid responsibility for his messes. I paid the deposit of $3,500 plus an additional $2,000 part way into his mess, which was to go to materials and supplies of which I only have approximately $1,000 worth of wood materials. They would come and work a day at a time about once every 2-3 weeks. I would have to call him and then they would show up for a few hours. In October 2024 he completely stopped responding."

Epoxy and polyurethane sealers can last five to 10 years, while acrylic sealers last two to three years or more depending on the use, wear of the surface, and type of sealer you choose. Areas that see heavy traffic or extreme ice and snow may require more frequent sealing. Test your concrete every two years to gauge how it responds to absorbing water or if it fully repels it for longer than 20 seconds.

Asphalt can get sticky in high temperatures and intense sunlight and is better for cooler or moderate climates, while concrete is more likely to crack in colder climates where water can seep into the slab and freeze. Asphalt requires more maintenance in terms of sealing, it has a slightly shorter lifespan, on average, and it’s a bit more expensive to install. Concrete will last longer with less maintenance, and it offers you more options for customization, including staining and stamped patterns. As such, a concrete driveway adds to home value more than an asphalt driveway in many cases.

To remove carpet padding glue from concrete, scrape away as much of the top layers as possible with a sharp-edged scraper or putty knife. You can be more aggressive on a concrete floor than on hardwood, so scrape off as much as possible. Then you can soak the area with hot water for a few minutes before continuing to scrape. If there is still glue left behind, use a solvent that is made to remove adhesives and apply it to the area. Then scrape the rest of the glue off.

If you don’t put gravel under concrete, the concrete can crack, sink, bow, or crumble. Even the concrete forming process will not go as smoothly if you are working directly on the soil or bare bedrock. The lack of a proper gravel layer can also lead to drainage issues below your slab, leading to water issues throughout your lawn and around your foundation.
