"This is a maintenance free deck that should last my lifetime. On the higher end of the cost scale but I didn't want wood that would need stained or painted. And I especially didn't want decking material that deteriorates after 5 years. Or discolors and gets covered in mold. Very sturdy build. Build team asked me about any issues they ran into and together we worked out a plan. Very happy with the people and the deck."

Installed recessed lights in living room and bathroom. Installed 10 new LED bulbs and put in two cans and installed two new holes for 2 of the lights. I instructed them (many times) to install matching lights in both rooms. I specifically said I want all the lights to match (many times). They put the old rims on the new lights and the lights therefore do not match. They look just like they did before the new bulbs were installed and the new rims are covered up. Installed 4" lights in 6" cans so had to use the old rims to go around them. Installed living room lights in wrong spot and when I tried to convey to him I wanted them moved to a new spot, was told it would require ripping out a large section of the ceiling and it would be a real pain to do it. I did not feel as if my wants for this project were taken into consideration. The degree of difficulty was what made the decisions to change or not change work already performed. I was not offered a written estimate, but was told that he does offer them. I guess just not to me. Prices changed after work was done from time of estimate. Purchased supplies with money I provided but did not present receipts for materials. It is difficult to find a good handyman. Would not recommend for small jobs. I think the bigger the job the more attention to detail is given the work, due to the amount to be made from the job.

"When a company replaced my siding years ago they had to take the gutters off and reattach them, and they didn't do a great job.  This company cleaned my gutters and reattached them to house.  They also did the proper sealing work that the siding company had neglected."

Patio Covers questions, answered by experts

Costs range from $1,000 to $5,000, depending on size, material, and design complexity.

Hurricane fabric is a temporary form of hurricane protection that offers an alternative to boarding up windows or installing traditional storm panels. Unlike hurricane screens, which are permanently attached to your home, hurricane fabric is installed over your windows and other openings before a storm.

In terms of effectiveness, hurricane fabric is tested and proven to protect homes from Category 5 hurricanes, which can have winds over 157 miles per hour. When installed properly, it is designed to block the majority of wind and rain and protect against water, debris, and projectile damage.

While the fabric is exceptionally durable, windows can still break if hit directly by flying debris at high velocity. However, it is a good protective measure against an impending storm. For comparison, hurricane fabric is more protective and durable than hurricane window film. While boarding up windows is easier than installing the fabric, it is more labor-intensive and requires storing heavy plywood.

To further increase the chances of your windows surviving a hurricane, you can take additional steps like securing outdoor items, elevating HVAC units, and fortifying your home's foundation.

Yes, you can replace just the fabric on an awning without having to replace the entire awning frame and hardware. This process will take a professional about one to two hours. If you want to DIY, it could take longer, especially for large or retractable awnings. Replacing the fabric on an awning can improve the look of your home and help naturally cool your interior and exterior spaces.

To ensure the installation process goes smoothly, it's wise to ask a potential pro several questions. Key topics to cover include:

  • Licensing and Insurance: Do you have a professional license and insurance to perform this work? This is crucial as installing an awning into a home's exterior can be a complex job.

  • Cost Estimate: What was the price of similar jobs you've completed? Awning installation costs can vary based on size, design, and location, so this helps establish a general price range.

  • Project Timeline: How long will this project take to complete? Getting an estimated timeline provides peace of mind, even though unforeseen hurdles can occur.

  • Building Permits: Will I need a building permit for this project, and who is responsible for obtaining it? An experienced local contractor will be knowledgeable about local rules and regulations.

  • References and Portfolio: Do you have references from previous clients or photos of completed projects? Speaking with past clients and seeing previous work can give you insight into their experience and the quality of their work.

While brick is sturdy and aesthetically pleasing, it’s also an expensive siding material. Other great siding options to consider include vinyl siding, wood siding, and fiber cement siding. Vinyl siding is likely to be the most affordable option, but wood siding can create a rustic aesthetic, and fiber cement is one of the lowest-maintenance siding options available.
