"The plumber who came to review project and place a bid was personable and good at explaining the process of what he would do. The bid he gave was right in line with other bids I decided to go with a "very local" company I discovered during this searching process"

"I signed up for furnace special cleaning of $49 and I added air conditioning cleaning for an additional $49. I have had very little use of my A/C and it is only 6 years old. I have no problems with it. The tech replaced 2 parts and told me the cooling fluid will be outlawed in 2020. That doesn't apply to me because I would be grandfathered in with my fluid. He replaced two parts, which I believe were unnecessary, but I authorized it. He also thought there was a leak and said he's be back in the spring to check it. When all was said and done, the bill was $957 plus the $49 already paid through Angie's list. I have an invoice carbon that is unreadable and I have asked for another but have not received one. This was a clean-up job, not a service call. I'm not having them back and I'm cancelling my Angie's list subscription."

"The painting and trim repair went smoothly. The owner contacted me the day before they wanted to start, when the weather was looking up, and we met the next morning. This was about a week after I gave the go ahead on the proposal. The painters were out for three days, with thee the first day, two the second, and one the third to finish up.

I received an email update from the owner the second day to update me on progress and made it home early on the second and third days to check in. All went smoothly from my perspective. There was a bit of trade off on prep work for the front entrance area (going to remove next year so skimp on prep) and trim repair which worked out well and kept the project at cost. I spoke with the painter on site who'd managed the team at some length about the work and future options on the last day when work was wrapped up.

Note on price: I didn't have a chance to get additional bids before I wanted to go ahead so I don't have a basis for comparison, but the price seemed fair for the work and friends with similar experience concurred."

Drain Cleaning questions, answered by experts

You should not attempt to snake your sewer yourself. Accessing and snaking your sewer requires heavy-duty equipment, and while renting is possible, misusing it can damage your sewer main and leave you with very expensive repair costs, not to mention potential environmental issues and severe water damage. Accessing your sewer also exposes you to hazardous sewer gasses, and failing to seal the sewer properly after work can be very dangerous. It’s always best to hire a professional sewer cleaner near you to handle this type of work.

Yes, pop-up drains commonly get clogged with hair, soap scum, and toothpaste. It is important to know how to properly clean the drain or get professional help to ensure it remains clear and can drain water effectively.

Start by pouring hot—but not boiling—water down the drain. The heat of the water may be enough to break down the clog. You can also try ½ cup of dish soap or 1 cup each of white vinegar and baking soda. If you choose a chemical unclogging product, ensure it’s appropriate for toilets to avoid damage.

Simple blockages can be cleared using household plungers or manual snakes, provided no severe plumbing issues exist.

Septic tanks can clog if they aren’t pumped every few years since solid waste accumulates inside of them. Your tank might also clog if you have a habit of flushing anything other than human waste or toilet paper. Items like diapers, baby wipes, paper towels, cat litter, and personal hygiene products should never go down your pipes.
