"My second job with Mikes Dirtworks this year: previous job was tree removal. Recent job last week was grading dirt around home, landscaping, laying new rocks, etc, all to prevent water entering basement. Meticulous work from Mike and his team! Looks wonderfulâ great improvement to my home. Team cleans up well after job. Mike saved me a lot of moneyâ his team did a fabulous job. They clean up well after the job. Very hard workers! I am very pleased with Mikeâ s Dirtworks!"

"Very professional outfit and clearly experts at what they do. They worked within my budget and presented me with options. The crew that did the install was, friendly, professional, and very good at their work. They hauled away everything and went above and beyond. Would highly recommend."

Brush Chipping questions, answered by experts

Typically, the best type to trim bushes is when they’re dormant. Winter and late fall, potentially even early spring are the best times to trim your bushes. These seasons allow you better access to the branches, as all leaves are gone and the branches are more brittle, making the trimming process easier.

We always recommend wearing a protective mask when blowing leaves (as well as goggles if possible). Blowing leaves creates a lot of dust, and in many cases that dust contains a bunch of allergens that can make those sensitive very miserable. Even worse, moldy leaves can contain fungi and bacteria that could make humans as animals very sick. Mask up before starting your leaf project, and if anyone is helping you collect the leaves it’s a good idea if they wear a mask, too.

Using a leaf blower is often the easiest way to pick up leaves. It quickly and efficiently gathers leaves into manageable piles, requiring less physical effort than manual raking. Additionally, you can choose to bag the collected leaves or use a mulching mower to break them down into natural mulch, simplifying the cleanup process further.

Yes, you can conduct your own leaf removal, but consider that keeping up with leaf removal is time-consuming and requires regular yard work throughout the fall. The process can take a few hours a week. Professionals have lawn equipment that can speed up the process and save you time. Additionally, consider how you’ll dispose of the leaves. If your sanitation company won’t pick them up—especially if you have many bags from a once-annual cleanup— you’ll have to drive the bags to the dump. It’s usually easier to leave the work and disposal to a professional leaf removal service.

For minor unevenness, you don't necessarily need to remove grass before leveling. You can apply a topdressing mixture to fill in low areas and even out the surface. However, for more significant unevenness or deep depressions, it might be necessary to temporarily remove the grass to ensure proper leveling and soil compaction. After filling and leveling, you can replace the grass or consider reseeding the area.
