"Great experience and I'm thrilled with the final product. ! I communicated via email with Gina first to get some initial information and to learn about the process/timeline. Gina was very responsive to every communication. I dropped the chairs off and picked them up myself to save a little money; the team at the shop unloaded and loaded the chairs for me once I arrived. Gina provided a thorough estimate and clearly explained what she thought needed to be done - new foam; new board on at least one broken chair base; glue some parts that were wobbly. I also carefully reviewed the website for Twin Cities Upholstery before dropping off my chairs. They have lots of fabrics to choose from in the shop and even more online via the fabric companies they use; and some fabric company partners will send free samples of fabric. This was REALLY helpful for me and I actually selected one of the fabrics from the samples I ordered. I recommend either reviewing fabric samples online or spending time in the shop looking at fabric before dropping off item to be upholstered. There is just so much to choose from. The chairs were completed well within the timeframe promised. I would use this company again in the future!"

"I highly recommend Niola Upholstery services. Manual recovered my Baker couch and two Hickory Chair swivel chairs, and they looked just like the original job. He also recovered 4 bar stools, a bench and a side chair. I could not be happier! He is a professional through and through!"

Upholstering questions, answered by experts

Paper moving pads, also called furniture wrapping paper or paper moving blankets, are sheets of recycled paper used to protect various items during moving. Similar to traditional moving blankets, paper pads are also reusable, making them a sustainable and cost-effective option for protecting your belongings during the moving process. Although they’re recycled, they still provide excellent protection against dust, dirt, and scratches.

You should consider the time needed to clean and prepare your bedroom set for transit. A few days before moving, vacuum, dust, and clean your furniture with a mild cleaning solution. Depending on the movers and the services you pick, you might need to pre-pack the mattress and box spring in boxes designed for beds and disassemble some furniture by removing doors and hardware. Finally, don’t forget to take plenty of pictures documenting the pre-move condition in case you need to file a claim.

When deciding whether to repair, reupholster, or replace old furniture, consider its age, quality, level of wear, and overall value, including sentimental attachment. In many cases, it is more affordable to reupholster or repair furniture than to replace it, especially for antique, vintage, or discontinued pieces.

Older furniture is often made from durable hardwoods like oak and maple, giving it a longer lifespan than newer furniture, which frequently uses lower-quality materials such as plywood or medium-density fiberboard (MDF). Because of this, repairing or reupholstering a well-made older piece is often a worthwhile investment.

To determine the best course of action from a financial perspective, compare quotes from local furniture repair services with the price of a new, similar piece. Reupholstery may not be cost-effective for furniture that was originally inexpensive (e.g., under $300). For high-quality or sentimental items, however, it is an excellent way to preserve the piece and extend its life. If you're unsure, a furniture reupholstery specialist can help you evaluate the piece and make an informed decision.

Yes, you can reupholster antique furniture, and it’s a great way to extend the life of your pieces and keep them looking fresh and new for years to come. In fact, since reupholstering furniture is significantly more affordable than replacing it, reviving antique furniture can be a cost-effective way to keep that family heirloom usable for much longer. It’s usually a good idea to leave antique reupholstering to a professional, as they will have the tools and expertise to ensure the piece isn’t damaged and looks professionally finished.

Regular vacuuming, spot cleaning, and protecting surfaces from sun exposure prevents wear and fading, preserving longevity.
