We also asked them to apply a java gel stain to a high ceiling beam and the pitched ceiling of our master bathroom. We couldn't have been happier with the results. Absolute perfection. First off, take a breath. The good news is that interior paint, especially when used outside, won’t harm your health. The bad news is that you’re going to have to reapply the proper exterior paint at some point in the not-so-distant future. Otherwise the current coat will chip, crack, and fade, or worse, develop mold or an insect infestation without remediation.

Wait at least 48 hours before taking a shower in your newly painted bathroom. Even if the paint feels dry to the touch, it needs time to fully cure and resist the high humidity from a hot shower. Keep the bathroom well-ventilated by running an exhaust fan or leaving a window open during the drying time and while showering. 

After painting, air out the painted area for at least 48 to 72 hours by opening windows and using fans, according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission. The process helps disperse volatile organic compounds (VOCs) the paint emits, reducing their concentration indoors. However, in some cases, especially with oil-based paints, airing out for extended periods may be necessary. Monitor air quality and continue ventilation until paint fumes dissipate significantly.

Technically, yes, there are lawn “paints” that you can use to dye your lawn to a greener color, often made out of nontoxic biodegradable materials. This is a potential band-aid to your problem, but it rarely has perfect results. First, yellowed grass is usually frail and lacks the springiness of healthy grass, so your lawn may still look unhealthy no matter the color. Second, lawn paints only work for the short term, and wash away after a couple of months (depending on your climate).

Because gutters are consistently exposed to elements like water and humidity, any paint applied to them will have a shorter life span than other exterior home features, like siding and shutters. In general, painted gutters will need to be touched up or completely repainted every 5 to 10 years, though you may get a couple extra years with regular care and maintenance.
