"We worked with Rick and his colleague for a fairly large project at the lake, including path and stairs to the lake, some riprap work, and paver walkway and patio with fire pit. We appreciated Rickâ s professionalismâ He was great with communication and was very responsive to all forms. He worked to make adjustments to design and other details in a fair manner. His thoughts on design and his approach to problem solving for difficulties in terrain were great and very welcomed. The quality of their work was excellentâ RIck stands by his commitment to quality and this is evidence in his not calling the job complete until he was able to make certain with were fully happy with the results. Also evidence is his commitment to returning this spring to be sure the work stood up over the fall and winter. Given the size of the project and the small size of the crew (2 persons) the time of project was quite long. Also, PureScenery was quite a bit more expensive. However, assuming the quality in workmanship and customer service remains over time, will be worth the extra cost. We strongly recommend PureScenery."

"All the original concrete on the front patio and steps had been patched many times over the years and was now beyond the point of repair. To add complexity to the project, there was a storage room built below the front patio that used the patio concrete as its ceiling. We called several of the top concrete companies to receive bids. Four of the companies that came to do bids either refused the job on site or just never responded with a bid after our meeting. Our project was not simple, by any means, and there were quite a few logistical issues involved with the original design of the patio. Three other companies (including Pietigs Plus) provided bids, and all were competitively priced.
I decided to go with Pietigs Plus for a few reasons. First, Jeff Pietig spent quite a bit of time at the house investigating things prior to preparing a plan for the project. There were a lot of unknowns going into the demolition phase, and I felt more confident in how much time and attention he put into proper measurements and tests prior to determining his bid. Additionally, it was always easy to reach Jeff with questions, and he was enthusiastic about doing the work for us, which is something I didn't get from any of the other contractors.
After contracting Pietigs Plus to do the job, Jeff was great about working within our timeframe. We had quite a few other projects happening at the house around the same time, and we had to coordinate a tight schedule for his work, since the front entrance would be unusable until he was completed. Jeff and his crew were able to meet the timeframe perfectly, and they put in extra work over a weekend to finish on time, even with a few of the project's mysteries providing surprises along the way. They poured new concrete walls and the stoop for the patio, and they did an excellent job installing the patterned bluestone pavers and veneer stone around the patio. The quality of the work is quite impressive, and Jeff showed a lot of concern along the way to make sure we were completely happy with the results!
I would highly recommend Jeff and Pietigs Plus to anyone! They were great to work with and provided us with a beautiful new front patio! Our project attracted a lot of attention in the neighborhood, and I have had dozens of neighbors ask for his information. It really looks great, and we are incredibly happy with our decision to go with Pietigs Plus!

Patios questions, answered by experts

A screened-in porch requires maintenance to keep the screens clean and in good shape, and you may have to do some screen repair or replacement from time to time. A screen porch isn’t an all-season porch, so the weather can get in, including wind and rain.

If you want to hire a professional to build a screened-in porch, a local sunroom or porch contractor is your best bet. If you can't find a local sunroom builder, another option is to consider hiring a general contractor to perform the work.

If you're handy, you may consider building the porch yourself. Before you do so, make sure you understand the local permit requirements and building codes so that you don't have any problems with the safety or structure of the porch.

A sunroom may count toward your home's total square footage or living space if it meets certain conditions, which can vary by local regulations. Generally, for a sunroom to be included, it must be fully enclosed, properly insulated, and equipped with electrical access and a heating and cooling (HVAC) system, similar to a four-season room. It should also meet the same construction standards as the rest of the house. Three-season sunrooms that function more like enclosed porches typically do not count toward the total square footage and are considered exterior living space.

Your maintenance needs revolve around the type of foundation you choose, as well as how you furnish or decorate it. Patios require little else other than the occasional hose-down, but decks and other wooden structures will require annual power washing and sealing. You may also need to restain the wood every two to three years.

Adding a solid roof rather than building a pergola or leaving the space open will make maintenance much easier. Without a roof, you will need to spend more time sweeping, washing, and covering your furniture to protect it from UV bleaching.

Building a sunroom can take anywhere from two weeks to six months. An average-sized sunroom typically takes between two and eight weeks to complete, but more elaborate or larger projects can take longer. The final timeline depends on factors such as the sunroom's size, features, structural requirements, type, and whether it's a retrofit or a new build from scratch.
