If you’re looking for an energy-efficient heating and cooling system to heat a compact to average-sized home, then a ductless system is absolutely worth considering. The installation is less hassle when compared to a ducted heat pump system, and because your electricity bills should drop, it’s an excellent long-term investment.

If possible, avoid placing furniture in front of a return air vent. A blocked air vent can cause your HVAC system to use more energy, which in turn can lower the life span of your unit and raise your energy bill. Furniture can also trap hot or cold air, damaging your furniture or appliances. 

Professional duct installers suggest leaving between six and 12 inches of space in front of an air return vent. If you must place furniture in front of a return air vent, try to aim for putting furniture over a floor vent instead of in front of a wall vent, and avoid draping curtains over any vent system.

While most air conditioners can last between 10 and 20 years, they will only last this long (or longer) if properly taken care of. With multi-zone ductless systems, there are multiple indoor air handlers tied to a single outdoor compressor/condenser, allowing the system to cool multiple rooms.
