"Built to Last Construction was recommended to my husband and me by his brother. They remodeled my bother-in law's kitchen and built him a beautiful deck, which is featured on their website at https://www.b2lconstruction.com. We hired them to remodel our kitchen. It turned out beautiful. Tom even built pull out drawers for my cupboard panty and added a heat vent along the floor. The extra time and detail they took to get it just right was amazing. I recommended them to a friend who is keeping them busy with projects at her home. My friend recommended them to someone else who has had a hard time finding someone to update her deck. She will not be disappointed."

"Aaron is a great rep, showing the products and prices, terrific on both. Easy terms financing. Set the installation for the next week. Kristoffer did beautiful work with the luxury vinyl tiles we chose. He came to our home at the promised time. He listen to our questions and answered all of them. Very experienced and very clean with every aspect. Excellent products material and trim finishes. Outstanding. I recommend this company for all of the flooring needs you have. "Anthony did an amazing job putting my large wayfair Patio set together. He was professional, had a large amount of his own tools and was early!!!! Super hard worker and knew what he was doing. When he unpacked all the boxes and I saw how many pieces there were (there’s a reason wayfair is cheaper than some) I was like wow this is going to take six hours. Great communication. Highly Highly recommended."

Deck Maintenance questions, answered by experts

A quality, well-maintained PVC decking can last 30 to 50 years. It’s known for being one of the most durable types of decking materials, with composite decking having a 25- to 30-year average lifespan and some softwood deckings only lasting 10 to 15 years. Luxury hardwood decks like Ipe may last longer than PVC decking, but they can cost more and require more maintenance.

Before installing a deck, you must build a base for the deck to rest upon, often made of compacted soil or gravel. While gravel is an optional material, it helps with drainage. Some contractors also recommend installing a weed control membrane, which helps provide a solid foundation for the frame. In the case of an elevated deck, a pro will often lay down a concrete slab as a foundation.

Floating decks are a cost-effective and versatile option, but they come with some compromises. Since they sit on smaller footings instead of being deeply anchored, they’re more likely to shift over time, especially in areas with heavy rainfall or freeze-thaw conditions. Their low-to-the-ground design makes them more susceptible to moisture buildup and potential water damage.

Yes, but ensuring the deck has a solid foundation with adequate footings is critical before building, as the weight of a sunroom will put significant pressure on the structure below. Even if your deck is properly constructed, it may not be able to handle the extra weight. While some basic, lightweight, prefabricated sunrooms can sit on a deck with a strong existing foundation without additional supports, in many cases, the foundation and joists will need reinforcement. It is always best to have a structural engineer perform an inspection to evaluate the deck's quality and structural integrity. A professional can help you decide if reinforcement is sufficient or if it's better to tear down the deck and start over.

The average cost to professionally clean or pressure wash a deck is around $150, with prices typically ranging from $100 to $600. Several factors influence the final price, including the deck's size, material, condition, and how long it has been since its last cleaning. For a smaller deck of about 300 square feet, you might pay around $100. For a larger deck of 1,000 square feet or more, the cost could be closer to $300 to $400. Decks that are very dirty or haven't been cleaned in years may require more time and special detergents, which will increase the price. The deck's material also plays a role. Wood decks often cost more to clean because they require a gentle power washing technique to avoid damage. Composite decks are typically less expensive to clean, and cleaning a metal deck may cost around $100.
