"Very quick, very professional, easy to deal with. They were done in 1 day, 48 squares of take off and re-shingle. 14 man crew, with 12 on the roof and 2 on the ground just doing clean up. I would have liked the supervisor on the roof at the finish to inspect completion. I would recommend this company for sure. The roof looks great and everything was back to normal after completion."

Awnings questions, answered by experts

Awnings offer a number of benefits, including:

  • Reduced summer home cooling costs with lower solar heat gains

  • Protection from sun, rain, and snow damage

  • Increased curb appeal for your home

Keep in mind that awnings also have drawbacks, including the potential to reduce your view, block natural light, and create new occasional home maintenance needs.

Costs depend on material type, design complexity, and additional features like lighting or gutters.

You can indeed open your awning in winter. It’s a misconception that you can only open retractable awnings in the warmer months. In fact, modern awnings are strong enough to offer a little respite from the snow if you’re someone who enjoys sipping hot cocoa outside on a beautiful winter day. But if a big storm is coming, such as a hurricane or a blizzard, it’s best to close your awning until the weather calms down.

Regular cleaning, inspecting for wear, and retracting during storms extend its lifespan.

The longest-lasting awning materials include vinyl, polycarbonate, and polyester for their durability and cleanability. Other materials like canvas and metal can last a long time, but may wear out faster. The key to getting the longest life from your awning material is to maintain it properly by cleaning yearly, keeping debris from gathering on it, and protecting it during stormy weather or high winds by retracting it or moving it to a protected area.
