"Doors installed ok. 1 had to be redone and way overpriced. Wallboard installed ok but mudding and sanding not good quality. Places needed to be redone and still not good. After we painted you really could see all the flaws. We had to clean up alot of dried mud that was in places that should have been cleaned up. Tile work good but over way over priced. We kept being put off in scheduling like we were not a priority which put us behind on our plans."

"Robert Bowen is the owner of RBowen Construction. He was one of the first persons to reach out to me. He came to my home the same day, and gave me a reasonable quote. He made time to finish the work I needed. He installed an over the range microwave and a front storm door. He and his helper did excellent work. Emily in his office was so sweet and kind to me. She understood the limitations of a 70+ year old and walked me through the process. Id be happy to call on Robert Bowen again."

"When I made a request for information, I did not know that meant Castle would be calling me several times a day every day until I agreed to have them come and quote is. I felt a little pressured into the Windows. I believe the Windows are good quality and haven't had any issues as of yet. The men that installed were nice but did not clean up the best. Overall, I would say there is room for improvement."

Doors questions, answered by experts

A slab door is a standalone door without a frame or hardware. A prehung door is a complete set that includes the door, frame, hinges, and sometimes the doorknob and lockset.

In most cases, a prehung door is the better and easier option to install, especially for DIY projects or exterior applications, as they often come pre-weatherproofed. They require fewer tools and less experience to install properly. Although prehung doors are heavier and have a higher upfront cost, the investment is often worthwhile for a complete upgrade that includes a new frame.

A slab door may be a better choice if you are on a tight budget, have a custom-sized wall opening, or only need to replace the door while keeping the existing frame. While the initial cost is lower, you will need to purchase all the hardware separately and do more DIY work to hang it, which may not result in significant time or money savings.

You can install many types of interior doors without a frame as long as the door is prehung or there is already an existing door in the opening. If the opening has never had a door installed, you will need to install a frame with the door. Consult a professional door installer to inspect the opening to determine whether or not it’s possible to place a door there without a frame.

Many doors can be cut to size, but it depends on the door material. Solid wood doors are relatively easy to trim to a specific size, while hollow core and metal doors are trickier and can usually only be shaved down a little before you risk damaging them. If your door needs a lot of adjustment, it's best to order a custom size or have a pro do the resizing to make sure it holds up over time.

You can use a variety of wood to build a barn door, but the most common options include 1-by boards and 2-by boards for the backing and the decorative boards on the front of the door. Softwoods like pine will save you some money and should hold up well, while hardwoods like maple and oak will stand up to more wear and tear. You could also build the backer out of plywood to minimize the cuts you need to make. Whatever you decide on, make sure the width of the wood is compatible with the mounting brackets you buy.

A hollow core door has an average life expectancy of about 20 to 40 years, with most lasting 30 years before they need to be replaced. Doors that are well cared for can last on the longer end, as long as no severe damage occurs.
