Small locally owned electric company specializing in tall vaulted/cathedral ceilings. Ceiling fans, chandeliers light fixtures. Click or call (269) 589-1174 for an estimate.

"I’m very happy with the work of James Electric. I needed to have an EV charger installed. I was able to discuss the project with them (location, model, charger ratings, etc.). They offered opinions, but it was always my decision. I ended up with my Emportia charger mounted exactly where I wanted on the house. In the process, they also cleaned up several ugly circuits in the breaker box. The job was done quickly and efficiently, during some of the coldest weather we’ve experienced this winter. I would definitely recommend James Electric for future electrical work, especially installing EV chargers."

Licenced and insured electrical contractor. 15 years experience

"Kyle did some electrical work for our kitchen remodel as part of a larger kitchen upgrade. Kyle seems like a nice guy but he made so many mistakes it really held up the kitchen remodel and it ended up taking weeks longer. Outlets were put in the wrong place. The wrong switch plates were installed. The biggest problem is that Kyle was so busy we could not get him back to finish/correct the work for days and weeks on end. In the end we had a non-functioning kitchen for 3 months. I think Kyle is a decent electrician but doesn't take the time to do the job right. Always in a rush. In the end it all got done but it was like pulling teeth."

"From the person with no license listed in Michigan LARA (discovered at a much later date) working alone to complete the work and not reporting that he drill a hole through our chest freezer, to not passing the inspection for multiple basic things it was a nightmare. I was asked by the owner to sign a letter saying I was "ok" with the violative conditions, when I refused, I was sent a quote for additional charges to correct the code violations. After threats to report them they got it to pass an inspection nearly three months after the original work was done. Horrible, shoddy work done just well enough to pass the inspection, thanks to my friend supervising their work and demanding things as they went along, and no scruples! Avoid them, it was even worse than this evaluation states."

Ceiling Fans questions, answered by experts

No, a ceiling fan doesn’t have to be wired to a switch, but it’s often more convenient. You can use the included pull chain if your ceiling isn’t too high or install a remote module later, as they are a cheap, easy-to-install option that’ll let you control both the fan and light fixture.

Identifying the source of noises is your first step to soundproofing a room without overspending. Generally, sound comes from inside or outside of the house. Inside noises include creaking floors, living noises like TVs in the living room, cooking sounds, or kids being kids. External noises generally include incremental weather, disturbing neighbors, and street traffic. Inside noises require you to soundproof floors, ceilings, and doors, whereas outside noises may require you to soundproof your attic, windows, and walls facing the streets.

Ceiling fans can be a great way to cool your home without the expensive utility bill of running an air conditioner. Plus, ceiling fans can sometimes run in both directions, pushing hot air down in winter and pulling cold air up in summer. With that said, air conditioning might be the only thing that helps if you live in a very warm climate.

There are several types of ceiling fans, each with their own purpose or advantage. A standard ceiling fan works for most spaces, but low-profile ceiling fans are better suited to rooms with low ceilings. You can also find ceiling fans with lights, energy-efficient ceiling fans, and retractable blade ceiling fans.

Fan power is measured by CFM, or cubic feet per minute. For every 1,000 feet of square footage in your attic, you need a minimum of 700 CFM. Steeper roofs may need larger fans or about 840 CFM.  You can figure the size of attic fan you need by multiplying the square footage of your attic floor by 0.7. (multiply by 1.2 for a steep roof and 1.15 for a dark roof). That number is the CFM required for your fan to run efficiently.
