"This company is HORRIBLE, do not hire them, they never show up on time, they charge you for services that they had not completed. We had at least 2 to 3 people fired at the job because they broke the equipment and sat in their trucks (which I have on my outdoor camera) and did nothing for a couple of days. After I was told those people were fired, they still came back to my house to do the work. They were supposed to clean our ducts and after a couple of hours of "cleaning" I checked the vents when they were done and nothing was cleaned. We also needed to have our crawl space cleaned and they only cleaned 2 out of 3 areas of the crawl space and told us everything was cleaned, after going into the crawl space we had noticed that one room was not even touched. They dumped the water out of our crawl space right into the driveway which was a category 3, they put a dehumidifier into the crawl space when there was still about a foot of water in it, they never drained the crawl before putting the dehumidifier in. I would never hire this company again."

You should have your air ducts cleaned every three to five years, according to the National Air Duct Cleaners Association (NADCA). Some methods that use brushes and cleaning agents tend to clean more thoroughly, meaning you can have the ductwork cleaned every six to eight years. If you spot warning signs like mold in the HVAC system or your home consistently dusting despite cleaning, you may need to service your air ducts sooner than expected.

Signs that you need your air ducts cleaned include a musty or stale smell when your HVAC is running, signs of mold or mildew near vents, higher energy bills with no major changes, dust on your vents, or an increase of pests in your home.

Homeowners insurance may cover ductwork if a covered peril, like vandalism, fire, or a windstorm, causes the damage. However, it won’t cover damage caused by homeowner neglect or regular wear and tear. Since rust is often a byproduct of neglect, repairing it likely won’t be covered. And insurance will never cover maintenance tasks like air duct cleaning or HVAC service.

The number of return air vents a house should have depends on its overall square footage. You'll need one supply vent and one return vent for every 100 to 150 square feet of living space. This means that, ideally, there should be at least one return air vent in every room. However, if the room is 100 square feet or larger, it's better to have two or three. A 2,000-square-foot home should have between 13 and 20 return air vents, in total.

The best way to clean fine dust particles after construction is by combining dusting with vacuuming. Start up high by dusting ceiling fans, walls, window sills, countertops, and other surfaces throughout your house. Once the dust has settled, go over all of your floors with a high-powered vacuum, giving a little extra attention to the carpeting. Make a second pass with your vacuum, and then mop all hard surfaces to get any remaining dust. Don’t forget to vacuum your HVAC returns and supply vents and swap out the filters while you’re there.
