I am able to help you in designing a new kitchen and/or bathroom. I will meet with you by appointment at your convenience. After discussing the project, we will then fill out a questionaire that will give me some insight as to what your needs are and roughly what your budget is for the project. I will then take some measurements and photos of the area and for a hourly fee I will then design a new kitchen and/or bathroom for you based on your critia and budget. Once I have designed your kitchen and/or bathroom, the drawings are yours to keep and you will be able to go out on your own and get prices for cabinetry, fixtures, faucets, flooring, granite, etc., or for the same hourly fee, I will shop the project around for you and get you up to 3 different prices based on the same or similiar products. Most cabinet shops charge you a "design retainer" to do a design for a kitchen and/or bathroom and then at the end of the project they will reimburse you by subtracting it off your bill but they still retain ownership of your drawings. This fee can vary from $500.00 and up, and if you back out of the project it is not only non-refundable but it also does not give you the flexibility to shop the project around to find the best price for products and for your budget.

  • A reach-in closet is a smaller closet that you can stand in front of and reach everything inside it. Aside from the size, the doors and the level of drywall finish are typically the largest price factors.

Bump-out additions can add some space to a closet without requiring any significant structural work. This entails pushing back the existing rear or side of the closet, simply moving the wall into either an adjacent room or unused space. For ground-floor closets, this could even be extended to the exterior of the home, but that has its own complications. Bump-outs are a good discussion to have with your contractor if you’re just looking to increase the space a little—not renovate the entire closet space.

You may need a building permit to add a closet, depending on the size and kind of work required to install it. The most likely scenario requiring a permit involves changing the structure of the house and performing electrical work for closet lighting. A permit can cost between $100 and $450. If you’re installing a smaller reach-in closet, a permit may not be required, but always check with your local municipality and consult a closet designer or builder.
