"Desmond arrived on time as scheduled. We walked through the job around the house and showed him what I wanted done and we agreed on a good price. On the first day it started to rain so he ended up packing up about halfway through and said he would be back first thing in the morning on the next day and he arrived once again on time and ready to go. I looked at his work after the first day and was enthusiastic to recommend him to any of my family or friends in the area. He is a new startup and I am excited to see how his business grows in the future. He will do very very well in my opinion."

Gutter Cleaning questions, answered by experts

Icicles don't necessarily mean your gutters are clogged or bad, but they can indicate an underlying issue. While clogged gutters can cause icicles to form, the problem could also be an ice dam on your roof from poor insulation. In that case, melting snow can refreeze in the gutter even without a clog. Regardless of the cause, the weight of the ice can damage your gutters or even rip them completely off the house. If you are unsure of the underlying problem, it's best to call a roofing company to assess the issue and implement a permanent solution.

Downspouts channel water from your roof and gutters into the ground following a specific route so water doesn’t accumulate around your house’s foundation. Without a downspout, the standing water will wash away material and disrupt the soil, leading to foundation erosion. The standing water will also form ice around your house during cold weather, causing a safety hazard.

Buried downspouts can freeze during cold weather as cold water runs through them. If you’ve discovered your downspouts are frozen, you can carefully pour hot water down the top of the downspout to defrost them. If that doesn’t work, you may need to dig your downspout back up. Avoid trying to break the ice from the exterior using a hammer as this can cause cracks and damage to your downspout.

To avoid freezing the future, consider adding a heating cable to the exterior, which can adjust heat based on the surrounding temperature.

Properly installed gutters should be able to function normally in heavy rains. Allowing water to overflow can cause water damage around your home's basement or foundation. If the overflow is caused by a simple clog, paying a gutter cleaning cost of $125 to $250 may be enough to get the gutters running clear again. If there's a larger issue, you may need to repair or replace your gutters.

Gutter cleaning costs about $170 on average, ranging from about $75 to $400. Cost factors include the type, length, and height of your gutters. A multiple-story home with gutters high off the ground and accessible only by ladder or working on a steep roof will cost more than a single-story house with a relatively flat roof.
