"What a great experience! Bill kept us in the loop throughout the whole job explaining each step and where he was at each day until complete. We had new porch posts and railing installed along with our deck power washed, sanded and repainted and other areas on the house repainted. His work is impeccable and we would definitely hire him again. In fact, our neighbors were so impressed with his work they intend to hire him also!! Thx you Bill"

"Roy Wessel and his team completed the above mentioned work in 8 days. His prep work was outstanding to include stripping the existing wall paper, re-mudding the walls, masking surrounding areas and covering furniture. His painting was flawless. I was most impressed and pleased with the way the kitchen cabinets and bathroom vanity came out. Ronni sanded the doors and faces down to bare wood, stained them twice, and layed two coats of varnish over that; sanding them after each application. The look better than new~! I would recommend this team for any kind of painting job. They were professional, personable and punctual. I will be hiring them for more of my painting projects in the future.

Deck Maintenance questions, answered by experts

Covering your deck with a breathable tarp can protect it from snow, ice, and cold winter temperatures. This is a good winterizing solution if you don’t plan to use your deck at all during the colder months. However, it might be best to skip the tarp if you’ll still be walking on your deck or using it in a limited capacity.

Both a well-constructed deck and a patio can add value to your home. Patios are generally cheaper to build but don’t offer the same aesthetics as a quality deck. Therefore, decks can be more appealing to buyers than patios, increasing a home's resale value.

Pressure-treated decking may be worth it if you want a natural, insect- and rot-resistant decking material that will last for decades with proper maintenance. As such, it’s a much better option than untreated pine. Alternative wood decking materials like cedar and redwood tend to be less durable and more expensive. Some homeowners prefer composite decking, which is a low-maintenance alternative to wood but is also more costly.

A sunroom will add more value to your home than a deck, but with a much higher up-front cost. Depending on its construction and function, a sunroom may be counted as additional living space, while a deck is strictly an outdoor feature. Both will increase your home’s value, but the sunroom will have a much bigger effect.

While experienced DIYers may take on the challenge, hiring a licensed professional is often the best route, especially for larger or elevated structures. A local deck contractor is typically the best pro for the job, as they have specialized experience and are knowledgeable about local building codes, ensuring your deck is built safely and designed to last. Other professionals who can build a deck include general contractors and carpenters, who may be more readily available in some regions.
